electric bill calculation

Hey everyone, I just got off the phone with SCE and they told me it's about .31 per kwh for everything over base... so with that said, when i setup my 150 and have my halides and pump and everything going, my electric bill will increase by 200 dollars??? does that sound right?

Here's what i'm planning on doing

3x250 watt mh
2x110 vho supplement
mag 18 @ 145 watts for skimmer
165 watts for return pump
about 50 watts for powerheads
45 watts for ca reactor pump
1/4 chiller

am i missing anything else?

My current Edison bill is broken down into 2 parts, delivery and generation per KWH

Delivery Generation
baseline winter .074 .103 DWR generation
over baseline 1 to 30 % .081 .103
over baseline 31 to 100% .093 .103
more than 100% ..104 .103
baseline winter .076 .014 SCE generation
over 1 to 30% .084 .03
over 31 to 100% .096 .126
more than 100% .108 .224
baseline winter .01
over 1 to 30 % .026
over 31 to 100% .125
more than 100% .226

Max winter baseline allocation 11.7 kwh per day
my average use per day 41.45

You must break down your usage and add all of the charges together to get the cost per kwh as your usage goes up.
I have shortened my light cycles by several hrs daily and changed out all the lights in my house to low wattage flourescents, 15 w instead of 65 or 75 w bulbs. No body said this hobby was cheap!!

There was a 16% increase over-all the first of this year. Plus your usage from last year is the base-line. Look at your bill to see the cost when you go over your base. It's a huge jump. Welcome to reef keeping. I second the quote - No body said this hobby was CHEAP!

yeh, figured it wasn't cheap when i setup my first fowler and then downsized and it actually costed me more because it was reef. Wallets not going to look forward to this one...

Mag pumps uses more watts than rated. My Mag 7 pump measured 175 watts so Im sure you mag 18 will uses more watts than 145. Im thinking 250 watts. My Sequence pumps uses less watts than my mag 7 pumps. Choosing a correct pump is very important in terms of energy savings since they run 24/7 unlike MH lamps.

I agree with that statement for SURE. I changed out ALL my Mags for that reason. I use Quiet Ones (New Style) and Rio's PLUS pumps. Go ahead and laugh, but they work WELL NEVER had a problem and they are VERY energy efficient. PLUS I pay the electric bill around here, so it works for me.
