Thats more realistic.
If you dont mind.. how many Sq ft is your house? And do you leave your AC on 24/7 or let the chiller run instead?

Today marks 34 days with temp at 100 plus so far this summer in the Dallas area. Our bill was $830 last month. Will be looking for some great sales from our LFS this winter when I can afford to by corals again.

I don't mind it. It is 4300 Sq Ft.
My tank is almost 100% isolated from the house even though it inside the house. A small fan draws air from above the tank and blows it outside to the garage. Passive air from the house enters the area above the tank. Not enough to make any significant temperature differences. My AC is on 24/7 (2 of them - upstairs and downstairs) and my chiller runs independently of anything. Even during the months of last oct-may when we had no AC on and the windows open all the time, the house was plenty cool. The chiller ran jsut about the same I think. That is in the process of getting remedied significantly.

Man I thought since you Texans were connected you'd get a break on energy. Those numbers are insane, its 100 every day for 5 months here and we don't typically get near that high (unless you have 2 tanks in every room like my good friend clkwrk, lol). I have a lot of SF, but I am in a single story. I think my most expensive bill ever was $375. Your tank will make very little difference if you're in a poorly constructed house, thats for sure.
It really comes down to energy cost x home construction (IMO). We have close to 100 light bulbs in our home and between the wife & the kid, they're on 24/7. We just sold a restaurant in LA because electricity was eating well into my mother's profits.

Very true gas doctor. Demand also plays a factor, and as this damn valley continues to grow, I guess I should expect higher prices. Its a hard pill to swallow every time I send out that $350 bill, I can't imagine a $750. The difference is a car payment or four rounds of golf! Or a lotta good beer. ;-)

Wow, thats a nice size home! Im sure when you yell, it echoes!
I will most likely purchase a tile roof for my new home but are also offering "tech shield" which soaks up the heat from the sun. I dont see how it would help with a concrete roof. Another thing I would like to do is make the entire first floor tile so it will stay cool. Texas is extremely hot.

Since I've "flipped" my photo period, it has gone down from the high two hundreds to just a little over. I can say with confidece that it has saved me a good seventy bones! TinMan

I found that when I got my 210gal reef & 75gal sump going that my electric bill jumped $75. May not seem like much, but I also shut down 2 other tanks.
I also found that my dehumidifier was running alot, almost 24/7. It's a energy hog 40 pint/day model. It draws 7.3 amps at 120 volts = 876 watts.
I'm looking at this top of the line energy star rated model.

It removes 2.5x the water with less energy (6.8 amps)

Mine runs about 240 a month. I run a 180 gallon fish tank with 1100 watts of light. Kilawatt per hour is around 6 cents however, the bulk rate the city buys it at is about 44 dollars per 1000 kw. 4 years ago, bulk rate was only 4 dollars per 1000. When I first moved in here, my electric bill never budged past 100 dollars. I added on about 250 square feet and a big fish tank, but most of the cost is the rise of prices.
Next year I'll be adding on a new addition and be able to close in my garage. That will put me at 2300 sq feet living and a nice big honkin 1100 sq ft garage. I'm at about 1700 living right now.
Can you give the dimensions of your house and the price of electric? Probably could estimate what your costs are going to be.
