WOW! I got my electric bill from last month and it was $625. Well I guess I have to pimp more frags and equipment. I am thinking of signing up for SCE AC off for the $200 rebate? Any one tried this?

Is that the bill you received from running the above setup?
Maybe somthing else in your house is contributing?

My bill went down 20% when I replaced all my incandescent light bulbs with energy saver bulbs. They are like $1.50 each at Savon and Ikea too I think.

Solution...put your tank at your office and let the landlord pay for it! Double benefit is that you get to see it more than if it was at home!

The rebate is over the course of several months (June-Oct) subtracted from your electric bill. I have 2 compressors so I get $400 total. It does take a few weeks for someone to come out to install the free device on your AC. I never had my AC turn off because of this device.

I'm still trying to figure out how you ended up with a $600+ bill without a tank size of over 500 gallons. I have the SCE program but not the max program. This is because the A/C is set at 77 degrees 24/7 since I don't have a chiller. If you want to reconsider, I can help you redesign the tank to cost you $200 per month less per month. At least that is if your tank is really the problem.

Simon get a kilowatt at one of the hardware stores and start checking to see what is using so much electricity. You might me surprised to find thing like is your dryer running 3 times as long as it should because the vent has become clogged. Especially true in new houses with long dryer vents. It took me several attempts to get a vent brush that would go around the four 90 degree bends. You would not believe the stuff I got out of the vent, including fist size pieces of concrete. Our cloths dry in no time at all now.

We should start a thread for people to post the electrical usage of their various tank components. Such Brand X pump puts out 800 GPH and uses XX kilowatts an hour to run. If we could do it on a spread sheet some how then people would be able to spot a pump that was not performing as it should.

Simon I agree with Greg something is not right. My three tanks are costing about $150 a month lately. Greg I would be interested in any tricks you have. I have KillOwatt you can use for a bit if you want. Edison will do an evaluation for you too, but I found it pretty useless when I had one done for my business.

My bill was $711.00 and I'm still scratching my head trying to figure that one out. My 580g is still just a FOWLR so I never run my halides on that set-up. I have two pumps, a Gen-X 18000 and a Iwaki 100 on it. On my 225g reef I run my 3 X 250 MH's just 6 hours per day. Only two pumps on that as well, a Iwaki 40 and a Sedra 5000 for my skimmer. Like I said, I'm still scratching my head.

Simon,

that's too bad buddy, but 600+ is a huge price to pay. Hate to see you leave the hobby. Maybe go nano instead?

Hey Laverda where did you find the kilowatt meter. I have looked around and can not find one. If you can help me out the would be appreciated.

I have two 400 watt MH and two 160 watt VHO on my tank, 2 110 watt VHO on my 60 gallon, 4 VHO on my 75 gallon, 2 VHO on my 20 gallon QT. Pumps for skimmers, pumps for calcium reactors, PHs, etc. This still only gives me an electric bill of $140/month. Plus what I do is only run one of the MH on my main tank each day in the summer. One today, the other tomorrow and back and forth. I know you are in Cali and that is a big problem with the electric but if you alternate days for the MH you will see a big savings on your electric.
