electrical advice needed

It appears that I am picking up a tank this weekend.
The seller informed me this afternoon that the Iwaki MD-100 return pump requires 220V.
Anbody have any thoughts to get me by until I can get an electrician over?

I would sell it and buy a new one. Electricians are expensive! 50-70 bucks an hour. Plus materials 50-100 bucks. New pump 3-4 hundred minus resale of Iwaki. I wouldnt mess with 220.

I agree with the above. I have a really big tank and I wouldn't bother with 220.

I have been an electrician for 40 years and it would be a lot more
(probably) to get 220 to your pump than to get a new pump unless your pump is right near your panel.

Paul was I pretty close in my educated guess? Step-father does a little moonlighting.

I have to agree with the others on replacing the pump. But if your truly interested in a 220 line - why not run it yourself?

If someone is calling an electrician, I wouldn't be recommending that... ;)

i went and looked at it and there is a 220v line that goes right passed where the pump is going to be...all that needs to be done is split the line and go to a reseptical. not going to cost that much in materials but im not sure on the labor.

As long as the home owner does it, Code allows you to. Steve, ever do any wiring? To do what vince suggests is all of a short period of work and acoupe bucks in material.

I just checked - thought i had cable but used mine up.

That is what the electrician gets paid but with benefits you would have to double or tripple it.

Just make sure it's all shut off. I've been bit with 120 several times but I've been told you DONT want to be bit by 220. But I'm sure some have lived to tell about it.

lol...it stings a little more...deff a noticable amount more than 110v, but not life threating unless you hold onto it or have a bad heart.

* Here's an idea, have someone over to give you a hand that knows what they are doing and give them a frag or two.

lol...that is always a good way to get things done...i like the way you think Kent...hey and where are those pic on the other thread of your 1000g...we're waiting...lol...

Long Island is a little different than Upstate...as far as costs go...

That would be a great idea if I had any frags to offer. Right now all I have is food, beer, and a little cash to offer.
