Electrical Costs Killing Me!!!

I had my meter checked and it was replaced by the power company. Also, I just switch to complete T5 from 2 - 250w MH. I just cost my light energy by half.

Next, I will replace my Quiet One 6000 (140w) with a Rio pump (40w) next month.

Well really if you have the old style meter I'd keep it.. The new digitals don't miss ANYTHING. My power bill went up after getting a digital meter. I asked an electrician about it and was told the old style meters weren't very accurate.. The new ones don't miss anything. I guess though you could have an old meter that reads high insted of low.. But my understanding was most of them read low.

I'm guessing there is no interest on the OP's side ... ?!

The OP has a great resource (BeanAnimal) at his service. All he needs to do is list his equipment and usage. It's like he (the OP) went out of his way to avoid listing the info. and ultimately finding a solution...Unless he is waiting for the problem to fix itself??

mrpet,

are you going to post the requested information or have you decided to go with the trial and error process?

sorry been away a few days im going to do the math tonight and post the results...

Seeing that you are in California ... ... please do list just how many kWH's you consumed during that billing period ...

As someone else posted in a thread, they are paying $850 for 2400 kWH's ... where i'm paying $315 for 2900 kWH's.
While we have a tiered billing system as well, outs is very reasonable compared to California ...

ok so heres what i know. i have 1200 watts of light 1 cuda rtrn pump 225 watts 2 darts 170 watts each my rc 500 skimmer total 240 watts a mag 950 for my chiller 93 watts pump on my calcium reactor 40w pump on my kalk reactor 30w 1/2 chiller 700 watts after using the rc calculator it said 137.53 a month but thats at .12 a kw i used 2800 kw last month so its really hard to tell what im paying for at what cost. i can pay as much as .35 a kw when i go over a certain amount. the problem is i have other things in the house that draw energy so how do i know whats doing what? sorry if these questions sound stupid so far what i have done is set the a/c to 78 will see what that does and called pg&E and i put myself on the balance plan the bill went to 495.00 still to high but better than 850.00 so i will start cutting other things back to try and get it down... i left out a few small items like my fans, 2 4way oms a littermeter 111 and my ac jr. none of which i think draw a whole lot.

thanks

my *rough* guess on your 2865 kwh, under socal edison, would be close to $1000 (probably more)...

soooo...

not too bad of a bill, imo and from 'my' perspective! ;)

mrpet,

I'm close to you so we may have the same rates for PG&E. Here's what my bill says.

Baseline Quantity 495.00000 Kwh
Baseline Usage 495.00000 Kwh @ $0.11559
101-130% of Baseline 148.50000 Kwh @ $0.13142
131-200% of Baseline 346.50000 Kwh @ $0.22580
201-300% of Baseline 495.00000 Kwh @ $0.31304
Over 300% of Baseline 482.00000 Kwh @ $0.35876

We used 1,967 Kwh last bill @ $482.85.

as far as the meter goes its a new house only 2 yrs old i have also herd if i go with a digital meter it may be worse. do you guys think its poss to run a ton of fans and do away with the chiller the problem is that the tank is in the garage it gets pretty hot in there sometimes 85 to 90 should add some more put some blowing on the sump im sure it will help...

Is your sump elevated off the ground at all from the garage floor? I heard from a few buddies in the Sacramento area saying the garage floor/slab helps keep the water cool in the summer months if you place your sump on the floor.

thanks nuuze its gotta be the a/c will see next month now that its set at 78 insted of 72 its a new a/c unit on a new house should be efficient? maybe not? but the cost of a new better ac could be 4 to 6k correct? not going to save a whole lot there.

I think the best thing to do it to assume that most of your tank's usage is at the higher two tiers, and bill it out at 32-35 cents per KWH.

From there start playing with the numbers on the calculator to reduce usage, shorten run times, or put more efficient equipment in.
