Electrobes' K.I.S.S. 40Br Thread

Hey Willieb18 - My rock is Premium Fiji Rock from Marco Rocks. They were out of stock on the Marco Rocks, and many others. Since I was going to pay the price for the Premium Rock in the first place, I went for it and honestly I am so glad I did. The rock is perfect and Marco Rocks actually does add a little bit more than what you get. They've got my business in the future

It started to get a little boring seeing that same avatar everyday. Any news on the tank yet?

You know where to come if you want a yellow fiji, or a tyree green poylp toadstool. Or a monster long tentacle leather. Let me know if you want any your old stuff back.

Thanks man.. speaking of when do I see pics of your reef? I started posting again in nano-reef... are you still hanging out there too?

Yeah I'm over there too. I saw your thread over there this morning. I need to get some pics on the web. Its not that I don't take pics I just don't ever get them to a thread.

Hey now... no being lazy when I'm posting a bunch of pics.. I want to see this here 2.5G Nano! :p

Ask......and Ye shall receive!

So I did a water change on the rock bin, water doesn't look too bad, hopefully the cycle is finally trying to finish up.

Finally finsihed the powerhead adapter for the PVC rock support. The PVC elbow on the structure is not glued (Nothing is actually) so it's easy to remove and clean when it's needed.

In short the nozzle of a maxijet fits into the opening of the pipe (CPT PVC). Nice and easy to do, and IMO benefits the tank a lot.

So as I wait for my tank to arrive, and for the rocks to finish culturing I am going to make an order for the following:

- 2 X 75W Stealth Heaters

- 1 X Maxijet 900 (For the PVC Rock Support)

- Maybe another Jar of Black Diamond

- Can't think of anything else at the moment... I'm sure I'm missing something...

If you are ordering from Drs Foster & Smith, you might as well throw in some salt. You might even stay withing the first tier of shipping costs!

BTW... what type of salt are you planning on using?

Nice job on the PVC support system. Looks bueno!

Thanks Sugarfox.. out of curiousity what part of WPB are you from..? I used ti live in Delray Beach and my wife in Boynton Beach.

I'm in W. Lake Worth. :D

Heh thanks man :)

I already have a bucket of I.O. that I recently got. It'll last me a hell of a long time. I thought about going with Reef Crystals but a good deal on the salt came my way from local reefers so I took it. Being my tank is a softie tank and I use kalk I am not too worried about the params or anything needing to be high.

I'll most likely will be ordering from them, I'll just run through their catalogue I guess ;)

Boring Update:

I put an order via Foster and Smith:

- 2 X 75W Stealth Heaters

- 1 X MJ-900

What I can say is that my tank's equipment is now complete. I do still want a dual-stage Ranco controller, and I'll keep an eye out for good deals, but I am in no rush.

Foods

Foods

So I've been reading a lot about foods and the circumstances surrounding it. Feeding is damn complicated when you think about it. Feeding is all based on e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g about your tank. You've got to account for:

- Fish (What type of eaters and size)

- Corals (Same as above)

- Janitorial staff (How much can they handle in a period of time)

- Filtration capabilities (How much can they pull out in what time period when turned back on)

- Will I need to target feed or not

And it all keeps going on. It would not surprise me one bit that most cases of cyano, algae blooms, and what not in people's tanks is directly linked to the lack of research on their own tanks and foods in general.

I'm not trying to be cynical, and some cases of problem algaes really are head scratching (Unknown source(s)), but I sometimes wonder about some people who complain about their tanks having issues when they truly don't understand what they are feeding and how it affects their livestock.

With all the info that is posted on the internet I find very few people take the time to save themselves a lot of future trouble and read. Before ranting continues I'll just stop and add what should already be obvious to those not in the know: Read the articles provided by sites like this and while you don't have to agree with them.. have the knowledge to debate amoungst yourself.

Anyway after my own research I will start with the following:

- 1 X Feeding of Cyclop-Eez per week with Phytoplankton (Isocrysis) as a liquid medium for dosing it. Actual dosage measurement is yet to be determined.. we'll see after I have everything set up and determine the capabilities and needs of the tank.

- 1 X Feeding of Mysis (Soaked in Selcon). Again depends on what the tank's inhabitants need and what the filtration can handle.

I am starting pretty slow, but as my tank matures and more corals are added over time I will eventually increase the feedings. Is june here yet? :(

Ruh roh - The RO/DI Unit

Ruh roh - The RO/DI Unit

So if I've had more problems with anything up to now it has been my RO/DI. I hate how Aquasafe uses the flow regulator on these units... my last one did not have one and it worked out just fine. But now my Unit has started annoying me... has anything changed? Not much:

- When I first got my Unit, I thought something was wrong with it because the output was ridiculously slow. Then I found my water source PSI sucked. Solution? I got a booster pump for what my Unit is rated for.

- I had leaks here and there and repaired them. I still have a very VERY small one on the booster pump (This annoyed me but expected).

- After looking over the unit I can find nothing wrong. But for some dumb reason I am still getting a lower output than I should be. It takes the Unit about 1h 30min to do 5G (My unit is rated for 100GPD). This didn't bother me too much so long as my TDS was at 0ppm.

- Now I see my TDS has climbed to 4ppm. Argh! I am going to try to fix this problem myself, but if i can't I am going to try to speak with Aquasafe and see what they say about it. I may ask for the old flow regulator instead of using the one I have.

Man I'm hoping I can fix this on my own. I've had enough problems with my equipment to warrant more issues. :p
