elegance coral closed up for 2 days

What are your nitrates and phosphates? Also how long has it been in your tank? What do you have for lights? What is your lighting schedule. I notice with mine if I have the lights too bright for it, it will get a bit frumpy like yours looks.

While your parameters are not great they shouldn't cause your Elegance to close up like this. Is the parameters you listed current, or before it closed up? Which brings up what were your parameters before doing the WC.

Just trying to touch all bases to help diagnose your problem.

i got this on dec 26 what's wrong with my parameters dkh should be 9 and mg should be 1350? my parameters were the same before and after the water change. it was healthy even after the water change for a few days but just closed up yesterday

nitrates are 5 however i don't have a good phosphate test kit yet. i thought high phosphates only effect sps corals?

do corals even feel magnesium like if its low would corals even know? isn't magnesium just to maintain high amounts of dkh and calcium without participation? could corals feel low magnesium like they would with low calcium or dkh?

No actually phosphates and nitrates are essential in small amounts for even SPS. That is why I wanted to know where yours sit. I like to keep my nitrates under 10 and phosphate around .025

What salt do you use and what does the container say the parameters should be and have you tested the fresh mix Before putting it in your tank

You can see pictures of my tank and my Elegance in my thread http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2540376 it's located in this LPS forum.

I place mine outside the lighting zone... where the coral wants to open up all the way to get the most light it can. Put it where you would mushrooms low to moderate light and low flow with a wavemaker. They like low changing current. Which is hard to do when you have other corals. They are also very particular about salinity so it when you did a water Change if it wasn't within half a point (.0005) I've noticed mine will get annoyed. Mine had receded from the outer skeleton when I got it. Today it looks as if it were just harvested. I hope my luck continues. Hope this helps ya out.

DvBrien, good point and actually I've been thinking about moving mine to an even lower light spot to see how it does. I may give this a try before lights on in the morning and see how it goes.
