Elegance Coral Emergency

In Memoriam
My elegance coral just arrived(LONG STORY). So to make things short... it has been in the shipping bag since thursday morning until today(sat 6pm). I adjusted his temp-dripped acclimated-and now it is in my DT with low light. Thing is I don't know if it is dead or not. It has cotton-like substances coming out of it right now. Here's a pic. Does it have a chance?

not good

not good

I can't say its completely dead but it looks really bad. If it were me i would not have stuck it in my display. I am sure elegance coral guy will give you his opinion.

What was the temp of the water in the bag?

Was the water cloudy?

I far from an expert so see what others say.

Its doing BETTER! I currently have it in a mild current and low light and its recovering. It was like WHITE before i even acclimated it... then got some green by as i was putting it in my DT. Lets hope it comes through the night.

The temperature was 67 in the bag and the water wasnt cloudy. Its doing fine now as it is expanding and attaining this beautiful neon green with purple tips. I will give it all night to heal and hopefully it will get better from that time on.

it's alive for now

it's alive for now

It looks better but it still has a long way to go.

You may be experienced with elegance but if not I would defiantly
start reading over all the past posts here. Just do a search for elegance coral theory or elegance.

Make sure its not in to much light like right under 250 watt metal halide 10,000k.

You will have to hope it does not get infected because of damage and stress.

Good luck, post more pic's tomorrow for the experts on here to see.

Yea its definitely got a long way to go... its opening up alot more now, but I'm hoping it will do well... still got butterflies. It was in transit real long because fedex delayed it due to weather. So it left wisconsin thursday morning and stayed in Indiannapolis all day and pretty much all of sat til noon when they finally decided it was time to get it going(i hate fedex sometimes but ey...things happen).

You do know the high mortality of elegance corals puts your back up against a wall with this one, right? Where did you get it from?

You do know the AUSSIE ELEGANCE have been doing MUCH BETTER than the indo elegance you normally see. I got this one from live aquaria's divers' den. This one is much more hardy than you give it credit for. Though I almost purchased the indo elegance which has been known to be on a high mortality rate latley, until i researched and found out the aussie has much more success and caught on more shallow waters.

some elegances are much harder than others :) Just avoid indo ones, not even worth my $ and time to try to make it a success.

Once you know what to avoid, you will have much better chances at them.

I have 8 elegance in my collection and they are all doing quite good, even the ones with NO flourscent tank.

vapo, how long have you had them? What lighting, flow, feeding? Are they all aussie elegances?

Freed, out of 8, 1 is aussie and it isn't the prettiest out of them. The aussie one was just the pastel green type. However if you are really collecting elegance, I find that for the purple tip color morphs (that lives), you do have to buy Aussie.

5, I have since September, put in the bottom of the tank, medium flow, all together in my dispaly under 400W MH (24" tall tank).

1, I put in my clownfish collection system under 16" NO flourscent 10K/actinic.

The more recent addition of a more rare type (not exactly pretty, just not usually seen) is a light brown bodied one with yellow tips. Mind you, it's not striking pretty or anything but only one out of ~150 pieces. Will know a bit later if it is bleached or collected different depth.

My elegance addict buddies and I also had alot of Indo elegances (well, they still do) and they are almost 1 - 2 months mark and you see the decline. I do not support the indo elegance anymore b/c I do not want to support poor collection practises. My friends still do get 1-2 indo elegance every shipment, but they do not show good promises.

I do not feed them but there are pellets or extra anemone food fall into them.

Good for you. Figured it was Indo so that's why I mentioned that.

Good for you. I'm glad you could learn this way before making such a comment.
