How deep should I be placing my elegance coral in the sand bed. Is this deep enough?

Why can't I place it in the rock. I have the perfect place to put the coral in the rock where theres a low Amount of flow.

Where it is now... I'm worried when the sides of the coral touch the sand bed and kind of wrap around the Skelton because the flow pushes it there. I'm worried about hurting it. All experience and knowledge is very much appreciated

I have never placed my elegance on the sand bed. They have always been placed securely with their cone embedded in a hole in rock work.

I have had my elegance for 7 years now.

Well, it is really up to you but I know when I had one in my 100 gallon a few years back I kept it on the sand bed. They are from muddier/dirty water or lagoons if you will so sand would be the norm. Or so I seem to recall from some research.

Some will tell you not the rocks because it could tear its flesh on a rock when opening up. I have kept mine on rocks and its current location in the sand. There have been no difference in the two places.

I prefer to put mine on the sand bed that is where they are naturally. But I have seen both done put it where you can give it low flow for best expansion. I also feed mine weekly and have had better growth since I started feeding. I have 5 clustered together in a spot on my sand bed

Thats no true though. They're found on rocks and sand in the wild

Mine is mounted to a rock but placed on the sand bed in low flow. I worry about bacterial infection for any LPS placed directly on sand, maybe I am just paranoid but I avoid it. Mine is at least 3 years old. Really sticky like an anemone and it loves mysis.

As a member in good standing of the Barebottom Club of America, I have had no choice but to place my Elegance in the rock work. Never had a problem with growth or expansion.
