Elegance vs. Peppermint Shrimp

Hello all,
Has anybody had any problems with their peppermint shrimps eating their elegance coral? One of my peppermint shrimps will rip the tenticles right off the elegance if it is in the wrong place in the tank. As long as the coral is out in the open then the shrimp will leave it alone completely. What is up with this? The shrimp has not bugged any other coral in the tank since I have had the tank and all of a sudden the elegance was added and the shrimp could not get enough of it, the poor coral actually has damage to it because of the little bugger. Peppermint shrimp are known to nibble on stuff. The shrimp would not have a chance to do this to a healthy Elegance. Maybe it's just stress from shipping or something else that has weakened your Elegance. I would separate them, if its not to late.

peppermint shrimp eat types of aptasia. the torch might resemble the aptasia tentacles to closely. the shrimp r also very shy and usually cruise the tank at night, they usually stay close to rock work or macro algae, so when your torch is not out in the open it is in the shrimps territory. maybe trade in the pep shrimp 4 another one and see what happens

My peppermint attacks new LPS on a regular basis. I try to feed him some pellets if I'm putting something new in the tank. It seems to keep him occupied/full long enough.

He doesn't seem to bother corals once they've been in the tank a few days.

I just don't have the heart to do away with him. I'll wait until he's gone, then never get another again.

I have to guard my Acanthastrea if I want to feed it pellets with the peppermint shrimp around. I use a straw to beat it away if it gets too close... if I turn away for more than 5 seconds he'll nab the pellet. Even if it's mostly within the coral's digestive cavity he'll be on it picking like a **** safecracker trying to get it.
