Elton's reef tank in Taiwan

You are a brave man with a very beautiful tank... Have you been doing dry runs of not touching anything for a week or two to see if you can really leave it completely alone for the time you will be away?

For this new tank I only try run 12 days no one touch it.

But my old tank was pass 68 days completely alone with anyone. No one touch, no water change, no apex and no monitor.

I wish I can get it success to pass my vacation this time.

80 days. how do you do that? fish food, ATO, dosing.

I do have several times experience leaving my tank at least over 32 days.

1. First time is for Chinese New Year Holiday, I went to China for vacation but that time most of my tank are LPS, so it is very easy for 32 days.

2. Second time is 56 days in two years ago. I have 99% of SPS in my tank but one Tridacna shell make all my tank SPS turn white( I ask one friend went to my home to check some thing and he told me my shell open the clam shells and the meat turning white). And when I back from vacation I re-set up my tank. This tank I only use GHL dosing the CA, Mg, and Kh.

3.3rd time is last year, I use high PO4 and No3 method to let most of SPS growing slow done and keep supplements deplete keep as minimum as possible. I still use GHL to dose the KH, Ca, Mg but this time I add auto feeding equipment for fish. The reason why I put it just want to keep high No3 and Po4. I use about 4 months to try to get the best balance for this method. And it successful to help me pass 68 days no one at home.

This new tank I am going to let them just grow. And I add a KH MONITOR this time. I will monitor the value everyday thru. internet if the value get lower I will let my friend to add alk for me.
If I successful pass the test this time I will add KH CONTROLLER on line also. So next time will no one help on this tank.

Form my experience lower Mg and Ca will not get SPS immediately rick but Kh(ALK) is a big problem if it get too low or too high.

Ouch, sorry for the death on that piece. Did you lose all of it? I see many decent sized frags there that you can cut up and glue together to form a colony. Within months it will look much better.

I did not show these photos before in RC so for me it is great growth and I should happy for that.

This one was moved from my old tank but it is not good situation in the begin. It almost died but I found it still has few and short frags under 1mm. So I kept them in the tank to see any chance let them survive.
You can see below pictures taken in different days. I do not want to change anything at this point time but just keep them grow. So I can compare after several months.

Thanks for sharing. That's excellent recovery. Hopefully you can grow it into a colony at again.

It is not a hard job for me but 2 months leaving will be a big challenge.

After June 29 everything will just go ahead by themselves. And that will be a really difficult situation for all alive items.

This almost looks like red dragon but isn't the same. must be a related species? they do grow fast when established. the coloration is different on new growth vs. older growth.

Yes, it is the red dragon but I do have two different Red Dragons. You can see the different from below photo.
Right side one is complete turn white when I move it from my old tank, current red dragon is left side one.

Even without 2 months out of town, I believe it is hard enough for most of reefers. It is a great achievement from Elton so far.

Since 6/10 I stopped changing anything of my tank due to I start my vacation from 6/30 until 8/30.

Below pictures took on July 1st, and the KH monitor also helps me to see current KH of my tank.
