email alarm setup

Hi,

I had my ACIII setup working correctly and sending me emails and text messages to my phone with no problem until I moved and I had to switch the internet provider.

Now, no matter what SMTP email server I use the alerts are not sent.

Does anybody knows how to setup the ACIII with gmail ? does it work ? I'm trying to use that one or the smtp email server of my new internet provider but no luck.

I'm able to see the ACIII web page from anywhere, even the AquaNotes from my iPhone works, except the ACIII cannot send alerts.

Is there a log file in ACIII I can take a look at to see what the problem might be ?
Using those SMTP servers within any email client works.
 
The first thing to check is that the controller has a valid DNS server setting. Usually, it will be the LAN IP address of your router.

If that doesn't help, you can run a diagnostic session using telnet. Look at the Unofficial Apex new user guide (see te sticky at the top of this forum); it has an email troubleshooting section. That telnet procedure is the same on Apex and AC3. Post the result where and we can analyze the output for you.

Having access to the log really helps, as you said it was a DNS problem and once fixed the ACIII was able to send me alerts.

Something to note here is that I had to use the buttons and the display on the ACIII device rather than the web interface to set the new DNS serves, but everything is working now.
