email services that work with the Apex

Alan - Thanks for writing the incredible guide. I have been trying to follow it for the email setup of my new Apex but after I set up my GMX account (I have confirmed that it is truly set up and functioning), I can't get the Apex to send a test message. My ISP is AT&T and I followed your 2WIRE instructions for setting up the static IP and port. I am using a Netgear gaming adapter for my wifi connection and can access the Apex on my home network.

I haven't yet tackled accessing teh Apex externally from the internet. It looks like dyndns.com now charges $30/yr. Is there another dns service that is free?

Thanks. Doug

There's troubleshooting instructions in the Guide that will print out a verbose listing of the commands. Errors will be obvious or post the results here. No need for any of that DNS stuff with email since it's outbound only.

True but read the fine print. Establish an account, then cancel it and you get to keep 1 hostname for free. Make sure you download/install the auto updater to your PC to keep the data DNS uses current.

Have you tried using ATT's mail system to send mail? You should have an ATT email account as an ATT subscriber. I always recommend using your ISP if possible to send controller alarms. Other providers like GMX are best left to those that have no other option.... like Gmail users (the Apex & AC3 cannot use Gmail to send).

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't had a chance to do any troubleshooting yet but if I can't figure out the GMX solution quickly, I will try AT&T. The problem for me may be that my email with AT&T is a legacy sbcglobal email address and I don't think the email notifications work with sbcglobal. Maybe I can set up a new email address that would be AT&T instead. I will check into it.

Hello I'm using GMX mail server and have entered all the setting as per posts. I have logged into the apex through DOS and entered

cons
1 maild
mail

I get an error:

SMTP: mail.gmx.com unkn host

Not sure why can anyone explain? Maybe its something I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

What is the DNS server setting in the Apex, and what company is your ISP?

Yes Russ that's what is was. I put the DNS to 192.168.0.1. in both blanks. Shaw Canada is the provider for my internet. I had the old DNS from the Airport Extreme in there which was totally different.

I was in the process of looking at this thread, troubleshooting and when I got back to post "I GOT IT" I saw your message. Thanks again for taking time out of your night to help.

This Apex has sure been a nightmare for me. Spent days on all the set-up but looks like it coming to an end.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but is Gmx still working for people as i have set up an account with them but not getting emails through.

Hey RussM,
never mind i got it working, however is there a way for "The Apex Fusion" site to email us if it looses communication with the apex controller. I have 3 different controllers at 3 different locations and it can be critical to know if something has happened..

Not at this time but it might be an option in the future?
