Email setup help

i run the telnet.

AquaController Login
login: Clownnut
password: ****

AquaController> cons
AquaController> 1 maild
AquaController> mail
AquaController> SMTP: mail.gmx.com unkn host

i also attached the email setting as well.
as far as port forwarding goes. i did the forwarding part. just no matter what i cant get port 587 to open. i am emailing the motarola for support.
SBG 6580 is the modem.
any help would be great.

First, do NOT port forward port 587. Port forwarding is only for inbound traffic originating on the Internet. Email transmission is outbound traffic.

'unkn host' is usually due to incorrect default gateway and/or DNS server settings. I know from your other thread that you now have external access to the Apex from the internet - this tells me that the default gateway setting is correct, otherwise external access would not work. This leaves DNS server settings... based on the info you posted in your other thread, the DNS server settings in your Apex should both be 192.168.0.1 (you had 192.168.1.1). You said you changed them after I pointed out the incorrect values. Have you rebooted the Apex since changing the DNS settings? A reboot is needed for that change to take effect.

i did reboot everytime i change the netsetting.
i try both 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1. both wont work.

Try this: Change the Apex DNS server settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Reboot the Apex. Try the telnet test.
