So i have had my tank up and running for 3 or 4 months now. I have 6 emeralds 1 died a months ago. I came home and one of them who was missing one claw is now missing both and 4 legs. Any Idea what could of happend. The tank i have a 72 bow front with 4 or 5 emeralds 2 pepermant shrimp and a fire red. And just a few small community fish. Im thinking maybe i got a mantis shrimo in my live rock. But ive never seen one in there If so i have no idea how to catch it. I dont think it could have moted and lost that many limbs or maybe another emerald crab could have fought him. I just added two crabs the other day. I dont know any help would be great. I also watch my tank all the time and i have never seen or herd a mantis shrimp. I would here creaking but i really dont think it is that click of a shrimp and it would only be like to or three clicks. I sleep in the same room as the tank so deff havent herd it at night. How often do they eat nothing has come up missing before or look like it is beat up on?
Thanks
Shane

Hmm what fish did you say you had?

I just saw my tomato clown rip into an emerald crab last week during a feeding. They had been in the same tank together for at least 8 months or so with no probs. The crab had been in that spot many times before without getting attacked by the clown, but for some reason that feeding time the clown lost it. Ended up pulling all of its legs off except for 2 on 1 side and 1 on the other. I never thought it would have done something like that if I didnt see it happen.

maybe he left them in his other pants pocket!

from my experience, crabs are vicious opportunistic diabolical maniacs. they'll rip each other apart if they're bored or hungry.

could be fish tho but you'd think yer shrimp would be goners before the crabs if it was a fish.

Did you ever see that movie The Vikings with Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas. They had a tidal pool where they tied up people they didn't like. When the tide came in the crabs went to work. Next day there were no more people they didn't like. :p
