emerald crabs

They are opportunistic feeders. If they don't FEEL they are getting enough food. Mine is on the verge of finding a new home. It doesn't always mess with stuff but every now and then is enough for me.

i've had about 5 of them off an on. never could keep any alive. lol they never attacked my coral though :( sorry hope you can get him to stop.

I had them on and off over the years. I'd get them to eat bubble algae but I never saw that they even noticed it. Sometimes I would see them at night and they would just slowly "go missing". I understand that "Emerald Crab" is a kinda generic name for several species of Mithrax Crabs, some of which eat bubble algae. I put a dozen in a tank about a year ago and I can't remember when I've seen one. The bubbles are still there. I never noticed that they bothered the corals though.

Certain types of emerald crabs definitely eat bubble algae. You just have to get the right type of mithrax crab because, as Harry said, people stick the name "emerald" crab on quite a few different types of crab. You also have to make sure that's the only thing in there for them to eat. Being opportunistic, they will always go for easily captured meat over hair algae ove bubble algae, it seems.
