emerald eating zoa

I just got and emerald crab today and saw him in with my zoas. the zoas were all closed up and he was picking at them or around them. I'm not sure if he was eating them or cleaning around them. did you guys ever hear of a zoa eating emerald

Never have I had an emerald eat zoos, he was most likely doing you a favor by cleaning the algae that can grow between zoos.

I thought that might be what he was doing, he's still at it right now. I'm waiting till he leaves to see if the zoas open back up

I bought some expensive zoas a while ago annd I watched my emerald crab pull polyups off and eat them. I will never keep another emerald crab

I have 2 emerald crabs in each tank, three tanks all with zoos. Never had a zoo or any other thing go missing or get damaged. Feed my tanks once daily, and there is little to no algae in any of the tanks. There is always the exception, but mine have always been well behaved, and if you did not notice any damage I would not worry about it.

does your emerald crab have pointed tips on the end of his claws or rounded pads. I've been told before you ideally want ones with the rounded pads as they stick to eating only algae

I can't find the emerald right now to check out his claws, but the zoas all open back up so they must not have been hurt to bad. I think he was just cleaning them

Emeralds wont eat zoas. Just cleaning up around them.
