on the drain bulkhead, all i can see is the threaded part. the drips fall down the threaded part then ride down the plumbing into the sump. it's a very slow drip.

on the return line, i think the leak is coming from my male pvc adapter's connection to the bulkhead.

at this point i guess i'm just thrilled that everything *nearly worked out. i can't imagine dealing with these small drips right now. although, i imagine i'll have to do it somehow, ideally without draining my tank another time.

just a small piece of sand or salt or whatever else in-between either side of the rubber gasket can cause a small leak - I always make the glass (or in this case acrylic) super-clean before I install bulkhead as they do tend to be a PITA.

I dont' think I've ever been able to have one bulkhead not leak by just hand-tightening - I always have to use a wrench to tighten it just a 1/8-1/4 -turn more to prevent a leak - and then be careful not to bump it if you work around your overflow - just slightly twisting it (if you're not careful) can loosen it again  - you don't want to find out the hard way that you created a very small leak :eek1:
