Just this past weekend i put in a maxijet 900 powerhead with the mod to make it like the "tunze" and boy did it work. This little thing puts out loads of current. Well when i got back to college on sunday, my brother called me and said that the anemone had moved from where it had been for the last 2 months. I knew the anemone was getting a little bit of the current from the new maxijet, but not too much. Now i just got a call from him saying that when he got home from school everything was okay, but about an hour later he went back in and the anemone was getting sucked in the maxijet. So i told him to shut the powerhead off and pull it out and see if it was still alive and he said that when he was trying to pull it out, it seemed like it was still alive because the "tentacles" were tightening up and shortening. So it looks like he's still alive, but what do you think i should do? Thanks. It's a macrodactylia something or other species type of anemone if that helps. Thanks

Really depends on how the foot condition is. I would definitely inspect the foot and see if it was cut or damaged. That can be infected and ultimately kill the creature. Hopefully your guy will heal and be fine. But just remember when you adjust things in your tank especially flow...the anemone will possibly move to a better location based on flow.

the only thing that got sucked in was the tentacles. I just spoke with my brother again and he got the powerhead apart in such a way that the tentacles are still tangled in the one piece, but he got the anemone to the sand. With that said, what should i do to help the guy survive? Should my brother feed him immediately or like in an hour or not for a while? What else can he do???? Thanks sooooooooooo much, I really appreciate it.

correction on the last post, my brother said that some of the side of the "foot" got sucked in but none of the extreme bottom got sucked in. Not sure if that means anything but hopefully he'll make it

I wouldn't try to feed it, too much stress already. Really the only thing you can do know is watch it and give it time. Also if there are clowns in the tank, you may want to put a strawberry basket over it, so that they don't increase the stress.

Feeding

A member in another forum had mentioned that i should have my brother start feeding it small portions throughout the day, anyone see a problem with this? I know yesterday someone had mentioned that i shouldn't feed it b/c it would stress it. WHat about now? Any suggestions?

You might consider putting a prefilter on the maxi intake so it won't get sucked in the powerhead anymore then all you gotta do is clean the prefilter sponge every so often so it won't be a problem with nitrates . Thats what I did when I got my anemone and I have' nt had any problems . Goodluck with your anemone.

Once they are injured there is not much you can do to "fix" them. Anemones have a remarkable ability to heal cuts and regenerate tissue. Just look at the accounts of the many anemones that people are propagating by slicing them in half. On their own they can heal up fine. The things you need to be concerned about are infection and predators taking advantage of the damaged anemone. Feeding the anemone right away won't do much good in my opinion. They have stores of energy in their tissues for times like this. The food can also be a source of bacteria and attract the predators. Once the incisions are closed and the mouth is fully formed is the time to start feeding again. In the mean time the tentacles might shrink a little as the anemone accesses the energy in that tissue.

Just my 2 cents :)
