i was mssing with my tank and i cleaned my sponges on my protein skimmer and now it blowing so many bubbles that my corals sucked in and its hard to see. so everything is normal that i can se what could it be? my skimmer doesnt have a air adjuster all you do is slide the out take up or down...

i got it under control!!! it was the sponges needed to be moved up. actually the sponges stop the bubbles that the skimmer puts out from getting in the tank. it helps it to stay clear of bubbles

Just so you know the tank could probably run for a bit with out the skimmer just incase this happens in the future. Are you using an HOB skimmer? I really like the in sump skimmers better.

Glad you got things worked out though.

im not sure what kind it is but it def is a in-sump skimmer. i know it can it just freaked me out !!!! it was an extreme amount of bubbles lol i wasnt sure if it was from the stuff called purpleup cause some of the setiment settles on the bottom of the sump.

Watch about sponges: they can trap detritus and spike nitrates/ammonia. Get as many out of your system as possible.

Spike nitrates or ammonia? How does that happen? I always say to keep at least one in your system to allow for a little bit of biological filtration. They are also great because if you need to set up a qt/hospital tank they are easy to remove from the system to help set up the new tank.

I for sure wouldn't rely on a lot of large ones doing much good in a reef tank, but I think sponges have there place. In his situation with his skimmer, they work well as a bubble trap.

i clean all my sponges once a week. i change my media in my wet/dry every 2 weeks. hey this spikes a debate im gonna start a poll on who thinks wet/dry filters should or shouldnt be in a reef tank?
