purchased a torch coral and one head out of two melted probably injured during transport.

the other head was doing great today i fed it it was extended all the way and while reaching in there i accidentally knocked over a small piece of rock a clam was on. the rock tumbled down and hit the torch ...now its only partially extended...some of the tips look burst open

any ideas? or is this a goner?

i called around for iodine dip and none of the crappy LFSs around here have any but would gladly get it for me for double the online price in a week. EW

the only iodine i have found is the suplemental stuff made by KENT in a 3 part reef suplement iodine stronium and calcium.

any ideas would be great
please help

Alex,

I'd just take a wait and see attitude. The iodine you want is called Lugol's solution but I'd see what happens first before dipping it. Corals are injured all the time and repair themselves without medications. Do be on the look out for red bugs, flatworms, as the coral was injured by something during transport and it is unlikely it was from a specific trauma.

Man, that is a bad scene out your way. I hope no one you know was involved.

I got my citizenship last year and no I don't know any of the victims. I have a feeling it will turn into a race or immigration issue as I am ALREADY aware of a poster depicting an Asian male shooting another man and the caption says in Asian style letters " I'd kill to live in binghamton"

People make me sick

The only iodine I managed to find was kent marine iodine iodine suplement for reef aquariums. If the situation calls for it will this do?

Would you like a picture to better see what I'm talking about?

I think a picture wouldn't hurt, if you are able to post one.

The iodine/strontium/calcium supplement is a totally different chemical than the kind of iodine solution you use to dip corals. IMO, dipping your coral in the 3-element supplement will not do much, either to help or harm the coral.

i looked at it and it doesnt look too bad anymore...i have raid something about bacterial infections killing them because of cuts and that is what worries me

i tried to get some closeups but cannot get decent pics of the ruptured tentacles
