I'm setting up a nano tank. After putting in the saltwater (no live rock or sand yet) I plugged in the pump & it started boiling the water & smoking. I immediately unplugged it of course, then removed it. Not sure if it was not rated for salt or just the fact it was old... anyway, can anyone tell me if I need to change the water or should it be ok?:uhoh3:

I don't see a need to change the water, especially since you are getting ready to put in rocks, sand, and start the cycle. The first thing I would do is to be sure you are using a GFCI.

There is no telling what the pump released into the water when it burned up. We're talking about a nano for water volume and if it were me I would most certainly change the water.

My thoughts as well. I'm starting over. No sense in taking a chance of a bad start. Especially when I only loose the salt at this point. Much cheaper than what it could be. Thanks.
