Emperor angel

Has anyone had luck with keeping an emperor in a reef tank? I've seen on here where a few people have them listed in their reef tanks but I wondered how common it is that it fails. The tank in question has has sps, lps, leathers, zoas, pally, mushrooms and more. Thanks in advance for your input.

I have an emperor in a reef tank. It doesn't bother sps, lps, zoas, pally, musrooms etc. But it is hell on the other fish. It is definitely the boss of the tank and no tang, angel or butterfly is safe. And it has one hell of a mouth on it. When it bites, it jerks its head and rips. It can remove filter foam from a power head in one or two bites.

They grow fast and large but just may be the prettiest fish there is. Don't put them in too small of a tank if you value the other fish. They are not afraid of humans. At all.

I agree. However I do not really consider them safe for the corals mentioned. IMO minimum tank size should be an 8 foot tank.

I already have the emperor fish. Have had him for some time. I just haven't put him into my reef tank. He's been in a smallish tank, but he's very happy, eats well, loves to throw water at me when it's feeding time takes from my hand etc. I only have one or two small fish in my reef tank. He would pretty much have the place all to himself. He's a wimp though, you move to fast and he runs and hides in his pipe. I was setting him up a 150 all his own, considering a few tank mates but no coral. My coral tank is 180+ gallons. I thought about trying him in there, but wasn't sure if I wanted to risk my corals.

Zoo's, Open Brains, and candy canes are a no, no. Everything else is fine. If you have him in a tank already then you are changing him from Grazer to hey I am in the corner and I want to be fed lazy fish. Mine where always like that. Here was mine, I sold him when I went from a 300 to a 180

Yeah my guy already has his adult coloration. I didn't have him as a little fella. He's sweet though. Never had an angel but fell in love with his personality. Which he has tons of. He's spoiled I admit. I've done the whole 150 with him in mind and I worry about anything and everything going wrong so I've made the tank as simple as possible. Hopefully he won't be too shocked with the sudden change, going from a relatively small tank to a much, much larger domain.

Resurrecting this thread. General consensus: would a 8x2.5x2 tank be large enough? I have 6 tangs in here and a flame angel.

Powder blue, Achilles, blonde naso, purple, yellow and a chevron. All are grown fish, not juvies.
