Emperor angelfish location, and availability

There's a 4" Sumatra emperor on LA DD and a 4.75" Cebu for cheaper. Why is That? What are the differences?

Also where can you find a red sea or new Caledonia emperor? I'd prefer a juvenile but know they're even rarer. A changing or small adult (for better acclimation purposes) would be acceptable as well. I'll be in the market very soon for an emperor and I want one that's set apart from the rest. As a last resort, I would take a Christmas island emperor. Does anyone have any contacts for these they'd care to share? I used to have cxi contacts, been too long, but I've heard great things about RS or NC emps. Aside from these 3, is there any differences in the other emperor's? Thanks for any light that can be shed on this subject and/or help in locating a "special" emperor for me.

I have a christmas island imperator suppose to have orange tail it has a yellow tail the pecs are also yellow . IMO the red sea christmas island have a deeper blue and not as grayish, to me a clean striped imperator is the most impressive.

I have owned 6 imperators in my fishkeeping years and the 240 dollar wholesale christmas island was not the best looking.

I would say not worry about location but the whoa factor and what appeals to your eye.

I got mine from seadwelling creatures in cali.

I had a cxi emperor that had a slight orange tail, but wasn't really noticeable. Unfortunately during to shipping (his box broke, can't believe he arrived alive) he died and never acclimated fir even 24 hours of me having him. I know not all cxi will have the orange tail. I've heard some red sea have an orange almost red tail and some even a streamer! I love the streamer and the NC usually have that, not to mention electrifying colors. What about all the other locations? Differences between Cebu and Sumatra? I'd really like a red sea or new Caledonia.

Sumatra Indonesia Cebu Philpines so your eveyday imperators I would say not much difference maybe as a juvenile one has a better circular pattern than the other very seldom will you see rs or xmas island juveniles

Should be some available I know RS are starting to trickle in and I have seen a few large imperators on the wholesale list.

Hopefully, usually they get snapped up so quickly I didn't even know they were for sale. I have my old cxi diver email again, but I'd really like to hold out for a RS or NC.

Ask you CXI diver for an emp with a very orange tail. They exhibit them very early. As you know, not all show it, but if you ask for it, they should be able to accomodate.

I asked for 2 from my wholesaler I guess the picker must be color blind:eek2:

Yeah, that happened to me last time. I couldn't tell in the pictures, when I got it, it wasn't very orange at all. But I have a different diver now, so if I can't find a RS or NC I will do that, thanks.

From what I have heard there are orange tail imperators but are very rare and have never of heard of one having a red tail not saying they is not one nature does throw out some freaks.Keep me updated on your angel find. Oh btw will post pics of my Chrysurus soon.

I was only suggesting this because he said hes got a diver in CXI. If youre dealing with a wholesaler, forget it.

I have seen plenty of orange tail emps from CXI. They do exist.

My first cxi emperor was from a wholesaler, like J stated, I basically wasted my time. Now I'll go thru a diver. I know they exist. I'd still rather have a RS/NC.

Yoiull find that not all RS ones have orange tails either. The only emp Id rather have than a CXI is a NC with a nice streamer, but it would be huge. In light of that, there is nothing better than a CXI emp to me.

I have never seen a RS emperor before but I've heard they have almost Res tails, more colorful then cxi, but like you said there's no guarantee. I too would rather have an emperor with a streamer, hence NC but again like stated they're huge. I'm just going to wait for the right emperor to come around.

I worry about specifically targeting a color variant for collection, that we'll be affecting the gene pool of the wild population (to have a more yellow tail). Hopefully this is not the case... I would like to see orangetail emps around for a long time :)

There is a lfs here in Tulsa that has one in stock. It's been in his tank for over two weeks and eating good. I can see if he will ship it to ya.
