Emperor Snapper growth rate?

Yes I've done some research, I know they get big and from the little I've found it seems they grow quickly to begin with, but at what size does their growth begin to slow down? I've got 160g (60" long, 28" wide and 24" high), roughly how long would it take to out-grow that tank, and what would be a comfortable size (I don't want to say minimum, but don't say something stupid like 10000g...) tank to house one for life?

Cheers

1000 gallons should be enough, maybe a little less depending on the dimensions of the tank. But def over 500 gallons to be "comfortable". They grow FAST. They have a great personality which makes them hard to get rid of, but they are hungry buggers. Prob outgrow that tank (if they are about 4 inches) in about a year, year and a half.

Yeah they are pretty active eh, a shop here had a large on in a cylindrical tank around 4' deep and 6' in diameter (hard to tell as half of it was set into the wall. Being realistic, I can't justify a bigger tank in a years time, maybe 2-3 years, so I guess I should wait until then before committing to such a big fish.

I wonder what the LFS is going to do with them (they've got about 5 3-4" ones), there's not that much of a market for huge fish here, I doubt many people will have 500g+ tanks....

they will sell them to some one who dosent check out thier intended purchase/ fish requirments be fore they buy.. bad deal for the fish..good deal for the fish store
