I have a 300gl all sps tank was thinnking of addind a juv emporer. anyone have one in an sps tank behaving its self?

My lfs has a 200 gallon show tank with tons SPS,LPS,... and they have an 8" emporer with no problems. I think it depends on the fish.

Mine behaves itself just fine.

However an emperor is a risk. My emperor was in the tank before the SPS and I added a few pieces to see how he behaved.

From what I understand...it is hit and miss...about 50/50, I decided not to although I wanted to real bad, cause I might not ever catch the sucker if it did eat my sps

I have had my Imperator for 6 months. Can't keep Open brains but the rest of my LPS, SPS and Clams are fine.....So far.

Mine is like Zoom...has been changing for ~4months now...never bothers the corals. Got him as a juv so i could enjoy the color pattern both juv and adult. My tank is mixed, primarly SPS with LPS and a few leathers as well! I need to get some new pics up...maybe tomorrow.

Zoom how long did it take for the change to finish on your angel?

I've had one for about 2 years. As a juvi, it ate a few zoa polyps and some purple mushrooms, no big loss. When it hit full adult colors, there was an occasional nip at an SPS, no major destruction, solved by an autofeeder feeding small amounts twice a day in addition to a huge dinner.

I'd do it again, as it's a magnificent fish. They eat ALLOT, so be prepared with lots of flow and a big skimmer. They put out clouds of waste, which I think feed the SPS (at least mine seem happy), but you then need to get the excess out of there fast.

Thanks for all the info. I think i may give it a try. The one i may buy is eating flakes really good at the store so if he turns out to be a problem i could probably get him out with a trap.

One more thought -- just because a fish doesn't pick doesn't mean that it will never...

I had a navarchus that was a model citizen for 3+ years until it decided it liked SPS, LPS, zoas, etc. My opinion, take a shot, but be prepared to take the fish out.

I have a juvi imperator angel in my 125 sps he does nip at some sps every now and then. I put some sponge he likes to graze on that but if you are completly stocking that 300 galoon with coral you should be fine. Be syure to give him lots of zoe so he doesnt get lateral line.
