Emptying Skimmer Collection Cup

Is there any reason to clean your skimmer's collection cup, other than so it does not over flow? I have not ever seen this addressed so I was just curious if it affected anything?

no...not really.....unless you dont like the stinking poo poo smell after a couple of months

I'm not sure if the skimmer works as efficient if it is coated with the gunk it pulls out. The smell is definatly a factor for keeping it clean.

I think maintenance is key for skimmers? I am new to them, but that is what I read all over.

Clean it atleast a couple times a week. You will notice it works better than when dirty.

It won't work as well if the neck of the skimmer cup is dirty.

There is one high end skimmer that actually is set up to keep the neck clean.

i remember actually reading about it in the instructions of my first skimmer (prizm)


they said on the instructions sheet that he skimmate coated interior of the neck will actually cause bubbles to pop before reaching the top of the neck where they would collect inside of the cup.


if you own a POS skimmer like mine youll notice that it cleans much better clean than dirty....if you own a nice beast of a skimmer that does its job properly im sure its slowed down a bit but it wont keep it from doing what its meant to do
