Ended Up Getting a Zebra Eel

Ended up getting a Zebra Eel instead of a SFE. Have been able to get it to eat clams, but thats it. I've tried some fish chunks(flounder) and it wanted nothing to do with it. Just seeing what else there is. Was thinking maybe squid. I would say crabs but that can be expensive. Also would I be able to use crab sticks(artificial crab meat)?

Here's a Pic of it. Only thing it the tank outside of hermits and snails.

Mine eats krill off of a feeding stick. Try gently nudging the moth with it, they should gobble it up. :)

Krill is ok to get them eating, but it should make up a very limited part of their diet. These guys eat crustaceans, so try some table shrimp, real crabmeat, etc. Your hermits may be an appetizer at some point.

(Fake crabmeat is just fish, which aren't really a part of the zebra's normal diet.)

I second the table shrimp. My Zebra Eel loves them. Some eels will go on significant hunger strikes before beginning to eat.

i like to give mine an occasional crayfish for somethin extra crunchy for it to chew on. you can hear the crunch through the glass and across the room if its quiet enough

Chilwil I totally hear you do this once a week. And congrats welcome to the club I love my guy. He loves jumbo shrimp, real crab meat, and live crabs and crayfish. He follows me around and kinda looks like a sad puppy when I walk away and don't feed him... Mine will actually swim around when he wants to feed. Other then that I just feed the fish... Seems to be every other to every third day

I feed the entire shell. I just cut the tail off idk just seems safer to me. Just give him pieces small enough for him to be able to swallow whole. They don't chew nd seems like it's easier on him to just gulp it down

i do the same as bluetrig ,just remove the tail but i must ask why you purchased the zebra when your intentions were to get a snowflake morey eel ?

I more or less was going to settle for a SFE because my LFS had a 2 ft + one for $40. I couldn't find a zebra local but luckaly someone on here seen I was looking and sold me theirs at a very reasonable price. :spin1:

Its okay to feed eels FW inverts? I know its not recommended to feed them FW fish, I just assumed that inverts fell in that catagory too.
