Endoparasites in Reidi

Hello!

I am sure that two out of five Reidis in my tank are suffering from endoparasites. They poop very lousy poop compared to thick and solid of others three.

The suspected seahorses eat very well but they still seem to be loosing wheight.

Doing a little research reveals that I should treat them with flagyl(metronidatzole).

At home I have already Flagyl COMP named drugs, which contain metronidatzole AND nystatin. Nystatin is a medication for yeast infections.

Do you guys think that its still safe to use this drug on ponies? All I know is that its very unlikely(impossible) to overdose metronidatzole...

I wouldn't use it! In humans, Flagyl can be very rough on the digestive system and some folks don't tolerate it very well. I would opt for pure metronidiazole. It will need to be gut loaded into adult brine shrimp ideally in combination with a good enrichment. I would also consider following up with Praziquantel. Metronidiazole will do a good job on intestinal flagellates and the Praziquantel will help with cestodes such as tape worms.

They are over counter meds available in many LFS or you can order online. Hikari makes Metro+ and PraziPro. There are other brands but these are very common.
