Engineering

This is a hobby that defiantly interests people with an engineering type of mind so I figured I would give this a try.

Does anyone work for or know of any companies that need a good mechanical design engineer? My former company laid-off the engineers in my department that had less than 3 years with the company. If anyone would like a copy of my resume or have any ideas of companies that may be hiring please let me know. As always thanks C-Sea!!

man that sucks ... the same thing happened to me a couple of months after 9-11 so i went to the darkside of management (much easier and secure)

You have a pm.

Additionally, go to the following link for Fisher Unitech's no Enigineer Left Behind. They are offering free training in SolidWorks for displaced Engineers. I have not read all the details but I believe they also try and place you for an unpaid internship to help build experience with the software. Won't pay the bills but it could lead to something.

Hope this and the info in the pm helps.

Dave

Are you experienced with Solidworks or did you use AutoCad or Inventor? What types of items did you design? I work for a custom lift equipment company and they use Solidworks. I know there are some people being cut right now but it was due to performance issues with the individuals. They may be interested in at least having your resume on file for when things pick up (not like that helps pay the bills either)

i think autocad and solidworks are temporarily giving away licenses to their software to help train if you are unemployed...

dmay-

I am a geologist, but work for one of the largest AE firms in the country. What is your level of experience - how many years? We do have a requisition for a sr. mech eng position, and I could put in a good word for you if you fit that bill. If it pans out, I would only ask you help me get the referral bonus... send me PM.

Does anyone know how to go about pursuing this? My son is a May graduate from the Univ. of Wisconsin in Aeronautical Engineering and has yet to find a job (like most '09 grads). He's not previously employed aside from an internship, but technically unemployed. These licenses would be huge for him.

I know my facility is usually looking for good engineers. It's landing gear made for Boeing and military.

Good luck all.

dmay pm sent yesterday.

Thanks for the replies from all. I have tons of experience with solid works, solid edge, autocad etc. That would be sweet if I could get a free liscense. I could probably keep busy doing contract design work but in this economy im not sure I want to pony up the few grand to buy a liscense but if I could get a free one its worth a shot. I have been out out of school and working for just under 3 years, not quite at the Sr. level yet. Thank You all.

Don

Best of luck Don. Sorry, I did not mean to hijack your thread...but my son is clearly at a different level of experience than you.

Many thanks to all who replied. :)

No problem Norm. I wish luck to your son as well. When I graduated I had numerous offers in a short amount of time. I really wish I has taken another over Lincoln, I would probably still be working! I had planned on leaving Lincoln about 6 months ago and they convinced me to stay, I had another offer but turned it down last minute after talking with Lincoln supervisors, now I have no jobs lol. Well im sure once, who knows when, not looking good any time soon, economy turns around engineering will have a high demand again.
