Enjoy the rest of the tank! Fish all grouped up...

Why is it all my fish seam to gather in an area about 25% of the size of my tank? I have a 65g with lots of swimming room and about half the time I look over everyone is gathered on the left quarter of my tank. I mean I just looked over there and my clowns, tailspot, midas, sixline, and fireshrimp are all over there. Everyone will disperse for a while, then meet back over there...disperse for a while, meet back over there...wash rinse repeat. The clowns stay over there because that is where their Anemone is. I get that. Are the clowns just so much fun to hang out with that everyone else wants to be over there too? Is that just the party spot?...lol?

What's your flow like? It may be that that area has a lower flow that the fish go to, rest up before heading back into the flow. Just a thought.

I was thinking same thing as sugar. Might be their resting area if the rest of tank has high flow/water turbulence

Mine used to stay to one side of the tank 90% of the time. They may go for a quick swim to the left side but never would they hang out there. Now they go every were. It may be the type of fish that I have now are all big swimmers 1 tang 2 wrasses and a dottyback

Is that where you feed the tank?

I was thinking these same things. They hang out on the left side and I have my WP25 on that glass, so it is definitely less flow than the rest of the tank which I keep pretty high for my SPS. I also feed in front of that powerhead to get it dispersed to the rest of the tank. I am going to start feeding in front of my WP10 which is on the back wall on the right side of the tank for a while and see what that does.

My fish did the same thing for quite a while. Always gathered in the clowns corner. The clowns are definitely the cool kids in the tank :). Everyone dispersed a bit when I added a hadonni for the clowns.

My tank is 6' and my fish do the same. It's not always the same area and they don't do it all the time, but every so often I'll look up and 70% of my tank is fish free and stays that way for a while.

Why would it be consequencial? It is the fresh filtered water returning from the sump. It would stand to reason it would be cleaner and have the highest oxygen levels and like the other person mentioned, sump goodies.

Wondering the same thing. I have a Midas Blenny who hangs out behind my power head. I was thinking maybe getting a break from the current, but I have no idea.

If you get him a barnacle cluster he will absolutely love you for it. Its kinda they're safe place.

I hear ya. This guy has the blenny condo right now. He/it dug out a cave and tunnle entrance to the backside of the rocks. Plus there are two ledges right next to it he hangs out on and looks at me funny. And he has a hole on the backside of the rocks it's sleeps in. Dude is set.

Just a note on this. I also fed right at my powerhead. I thought about what some had said in this thread and started feeding in the center of my tank 2X today. Not sure if it will stick, but it has moved out from behind my PH to the tank center and is swimming around much more. I will keep doing this and see how it goes long term.
