"The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says total dissolved solids in the Monongahela River in western Pennsylvania again exceed legal limits.

That doesn't make water unsafe to drink, but it smells and tastes bad and can leave spots on dishes. The limits are for various solids including carbonates, chlorides and sulfates that are dissolved in the water. They can result from sewage treatment plants, acid mine drainage and other industrial pollutants.

This is the third time in a year the river has encountered the problem. The latest violations began Sept. 22 near Crucible, Greene County, but now stretch along 46 miles of the river into Elizabeth, Allegheny County.

About 350,000 people use river water from 11 treatment plants that aren't equipped to remove the solids."

Hope no one is using unfiltered tap. Keep an eye on your prefilters.

The plant in New Ken has really improved over the years. 5 years ago TDS was 750. At or below 150 now from the Alleghney.
