Will epoxy putty bond to glass or plastic?

I guess that depends on what you are trying to use it for. For sealing up corners on tanks and such, I wouldn't trust it at all. To patch a hole in a skimmer or something, I'd just scuff the area up w/ some sandpaper first and have at it.

Good point. I was gonna use it on the corners of the Plexiglas baffles in my sump to help them hold in place. Then use silicone around the baffles. My sump is glass.

if your going to silicone acrylic baffles into a glass tank your going to HAVE to use epoxy to hold it in place because silicone will not stick to acrylic. what will happen is if water pressure builds up behind any of the baffles without being equalized by the same water pressure on the other side of the baffle, the acrylic will flex enough to pop itself out of the silicone bead and fall over. i speak from experience. but in my case the baffle not only popped out of the silicone but it snapped vertically in the middle of the baffle...
as far as epoxy sticking to acrylic, ide agree that youde have to scuff it up with some coarse grit sandpaper. i doubt it will hold onto glass all that well. and if it did, probably not for very long...

Years ago, I made a sump w/ acrylic baffles out of a 20 gl. I had a small piece of glass on hand and I cut it into 3/8" strips and siliconed one on each side of where the baffles should go. I then just slid the baffles in place. Worked for what I needed.

That's a great idea. I just puttied a small piece of Plexiglas in the tank just to see what kind of hold it gives. I'll check it tomorrow night and get back to you all.

Well guys, this stuff held great. I have no doubt that this will hold up. Just so you know I used Marine/Plastic Epoxy Putty made by Devcon part # S-80/80345
