Hey, after 25 years of Freashwater tanks I am now building a 90 Gal custom Marine tank.

As I travel up to 7 days away from home from time to time I want a system that will be able to coast through these periods.
Also the tank is right by my bedroom door so I want a quiet system.

I am planning lots of live rock, fish and soft corals.

My local aquarium supply guru has suggested a...

Coral Life 1100 pump,
Reef Devil Deluxe Skimmer
CL #3 Megaflow Sump

I tend to respect his recomendations but would like some other opinions regarding the hands off time and noise levels.
Any ideas??

Oh yes he also sugested a Uv light and a calcium reactor.
Are these a good idea considering the times I will be away?
Cheers

First off...

As for an automated tank, you can't go wrong with a controller that runs the tank for you. I personally use an Aqua Controller II by Neptune Systems, but there are many out there.

The UV sterilizer is not really needed as it mainly just clears up the water unless you have a very large unit. Definetly get a calcium reactor if you plan to keep corals as calcium will need to be replenished regularly. Have you considered an auto top off system as well. Evaporation happens quicker in saltwater tanks than freshwater due to the increased lighting required. This will keep your salinity stabilized as well as your water level. No expirience with the reef devil skimmers so I can't comment on those. This should give you a start though and I'm sure others will chime in.

Thanks for the info.
I will look into the g3 skimmer.
I was thinking of a top up, was going to make a float operated system, but come to think of it are there any pre-made systems to purchase??

Always go with a bigger skimmer rather than upgrading later. I run an ASM G3 on my 60g reef. I would definetely recommend the JBJ auto top-off I picked mine up for $50 here on RC and would never go without one again.
