I'm sure this has been asked before but I'd like to see what everyone's is. I've seen that it's recomended for 5x but I really don't like any deadspots in the display tank and there's no way to rid of it unless I increase the turnover rate. I'm aware of having hitching area's and a mixed flow also.

Mine is currently a lil above 6x

I believe you will have a healthier tank with a higher turnover. It is isn't the turnover so much that can bother the seahorses it is how the flow is done. If for example you have power heads that make the seahorse do somersaults across the tank, that is too much. If you break up the flow in such a way the seahorse can move about freely, they you can have as much turner as you want. FWIW, seahorses are often found in areas where there are some pretty strong currents. Of course, with currents they have strong periods as well as slack periods.

Thanks, so I can go higher I just gotta keep it a nice spread w/the flow. I'll be experimenting once they come in (on order) and the caulerpa grows out a little bit.

i agree with Dan...the 5x turnover is very "old school". our larger SH setup runs 10x-15x easily, but part of the closed loop alternates (via a SCWD) and the mains are constant. it's all in how you accomplish the flow.

Dan and i have a mutual friend who sez he runs a 60x turnover, but he spent AGES getting it "just right".

Holy ....., 60x I couldn't imagine, I've yet to have a tank higher then about 12x lol. But again that was before we started getting the cheaper and more efficient pumps that we have now. I could see myself trying to perfect it though to try to get up in the 20's, don't think my cube is designed right to handle 60x without creating a vortex lol.

But we just got our horses in today, and they don't look like erectus's.......... Were trying to id them right now.

Went and swapped out the horses at a kind enough lfs to do a 1 for 1 swap and we got the erectus's that we wanted.

Added a powerhead to give us a turnover of 10x and the erectus's are having no problems swimming anywhere in the tank, so we'll be able to go higher later down the road when I'm able to upgrade my sumps pump.
