ESHINE 48X3W 4G lighting fixture experience

Bigg D- 3 of those on a 72" tank is going to be just about perfect I think. I put these fixtures over my mixed reef a few months ago and most everything loves it but I did toast a birdsnest, digitata and a kinda boring tabling acro. All the other acros, clams, euphyllias, mushrooms, etc etc are doing just as well as they did under metal halides.

After reading 7 pages of info, and after having all prices from eshine I would like some help from all you guys that own these units.

My tank is 44" by 22" by 24"High. I keep mostly LPS and softies because my current lights cannot support SPS.

I will buy the 4G 48x3W LED with controller.
Now my question is: will one unit be enough? Should I buy two CREE? Perhaps I should buy two bridgelux models and use all kinds of LEDs, red UV etc to have a better spectrum? I am so confused...
Please help a fellow reefer!
And those who own them, please let us all know by now if you are happy with this product.

I have a 36" wide tank, and the lights are perfect IMO. You'd probably want a unit that is slightly longer. I know that they are coming out with a new 4g mold 2 line that will have more LED's. You might want to consider waiting for those.

As far as bridelux vs cree, it's all about penetration and what you want. I would suggest to add some other colors (red,green,uv) That is the one thing i regret. My acans are all turning orange. They still look really nice, but when i bought them, they were red .

Overall, i'm still very happy with my 48X3w cree setup.

I too think the 24" long 48x3W will be a little too short for your tank as you will have dark section at each end of your tank unless you have an overflow at one or both ends. If you want to keep SPS near the bottom you definitely should consider the CREE and even some 60 or 90 degree optic lens. The Bridgelux at 120 degree factory lens will not have adequate penetrating intensity.

If you do want to add red LEDs, no more than two per 24" as they are quite overpowering. I have 4 royal blue replaced with red and I ended up shading two of the red to reduce their intensity. The red does add color and vibrant to your rocks and corals.

12 nuetral white
16 royal blue
8 cool blue
6 actinic violet
6 bridgelux 510nm (aqua blue green)
The colors were recommended by a forum member (thanks Troptrea) who knows more than I will ever care to know about lighting.

I have a question for Eshine buyers. Were you home at the time of your delivery and did they need a signature. Also if you were home, did you unpack and inspect the lights while the driver waited?

Yes they require a signature, so you have to be home. I didn't unpack it in front of the driver, but I did take pictures as i opened the unit. Sadly the glass on my unit had broken during the voyage over here, so luckily i had the pictures that i could send to E-shine. After they saw it, they called DHL and claimed it, and sent me another 2 new ones.(glass panels not lighting units). I would suggest taking pictures as you open it as well just in case something went wrong. Eshine is pretty good about sending you replacement parts of something broke or breaks. Also, since there is a warranty that covers 2 years, with the first year costing you no shipping, they would be required to give you replacement parts anyways.

They make a 60X3 which would give more coverage and a 36x3 and 24x3 that you could use two each of. Unfortunately, the controllers are only on the 48x3s at this time as far as I know. I do not know why this is but I would expect them to add a controller option for other models in the future.

Yes, I was home when DHL delivered. I did have to sign for the packages. I only inspected the outside of the packages for damage before I signed. I don't think DHL is responsible for damages inside the package if the outside is intact.

Eshine is working with a dealer now in my area and will not sell to the public if you are in the dealers "boundary". I think that they sold to me by accident or because I have been in contact with them over a month working things out and making up my mind----before they appointed the dealership status. On their last email they stated for me not to share that I had bought directly from them and that all sales must go through the dealer (similar to Stark LED and 60 watt Cree). That sounds great with the shipping and warranty aspects----------until you go to his webpage and see what he is charging. Without stating numbers I'll just say that the profit margin is quite a bit higher than you would think. So keep it in mind that this could happen in your area as well. It sucks that a greedy middleman can ruin a good thing.

Well, I think this is a normal cycle of doing business. However, a middleman or distributor who makes unreasonable amount of profit will sooner or later be replaced by those who are willing to undersell him. I will let the market work that out. There are many options and products out there. They don't have the market cornered, unlike Ecotech MP series.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the info. I will keep my SPS from mid to top and from mid to bottom my LPS and softies. That's why I think it would be ok to buy the bridgelux modules.

Yes the difference would be penetration vs spread. I would suggest 90 since you'll probably be needing the spread more then the penetration, unless your planning on getting a bigger unit.

My tank is 60Lx18Dx24T and I was directed by the same guy who helped with my lights to get 90 degrees if that helps. Sorry but I am NO expert.
Also........missed DHL guy. He called me at work and left a paper for me to sign so he can leave the package if no one is home. Looks like I will get the camera out for the un-boxing too.

Sad part is he doesn't even place the order until you request the light. I only know this because I almost bought from him with some local reefers on a group buy. He was able to practically match the Eshine price. Most of the reefers backed out and the whole experience left a bitter taste in my mouth so.......I ordered direct. I got another guy to go in with me to take advantage of the pricing break for buying more than three lights.

Getting them tomorrow----48x3 Bridgelux w/controllers. A few posts back I listed the colors. 90 degree lens. I would get 90 unless you are MORE than 24" deep. You can make adjustment on the height you hang them to get a proper spread. People are always talking here about enough light penetration and Cree vs. Bridgelux----then they get leds and burn their corals. I truly believe that whatever LEDs you buy will grow anything, even the ebay lights if there are enough lights driven at enough power and not raised too high off of the tank.
