Eshopps 800 HOB Overflow, what pump?

I just got an Eshopps overflow box, the model is 800 so I'm guessing it flows about 800 GPH. So I'm thinking maybe along the lines of a Mag7 for a return pump, but reading about them being too loud.

Is this a good pump to use or am I doing my math wrong?(damn they are pricey too!!!)

Thanks.

i've used mag's before and liked them. used a mag 12 on 55 for 2 years and never a problem. you probably thought about it but the head height may be the only question that i would have

head height is the total height that you will be pumping water. with your tank being 2 ft higher the mag 7 will work fine but you could go bigger if you want more flow. look at reefcentral home page and you will find calculators that will find your total head loss, just input the numbers it asks for

What size is the sump? Mag9 would be too big. Assuming a 20G or so sump, I'd use a Mag3 or 5 if you want to use a Mag pump.

Whatever the return pumps out will go through both the display and sump equally. You dont want a ton of flow through a small sump. I highly doubt that overflow could keep up with a Mag9 anyway (ratings are usually over optimistic).

Really?

This is what I am getting from the Reefrcentral calculator.

Total losses are 7.49 feet of head pressure, or 3.23 PSI. with a flow rate of 612 GPH.

Looks like that overflow has 1 1" drain. If that's the case, I wouldn't push more that 400GPH through it. Either way, you want flow through the sump to be slow enough for your skimmer and other filter sundries to do their jobs.
