Eshopps nano skimmer modifications

Anyone have ideas on how to modify the new Eshopps nano skimmer? Out of the package it's worthless, but I know it has mod potential. All I've done so far is replace the silencer with an air valve to adjust the amount of air coming in. The bottom of the skimmer is just open with foam stuffed in, so I thought about gluing a plate on the bottom to seal it up, and drilling a hole in the side for an exhaust tube. What do you guys think?

What I'm going to do to mod it is make a plate of acrylic that will act as an end cap on a pivot glued to the body of the skimmer so, depending on how for I open the plate at the bottom will negate the water level. Much like a ball valve works on a full size skimmer.
