"Essential" SPS list

Hello folks,

I've got a 300DD that I'm switching over to SPS and I'd like to compile an essential SPS list.

I want to add things slowly over time, but I'd like to get a checklist going so I can cover my bases. Open too it all, but I'm just not as well informed with the fuzzy sticks as I should be...

Thanks in advance!

Also, if anyone has an absolute favorite, let me know!!!

My favorites are pink lemonade, red planet, strawberry shortcake, red dragon. The list goes on and on. Don't get caught up in names just pick coral that you like.

Those four are definitely on my list! I've already killed red planet once (I was new) and I have the hookup for red dragon when I think I'm ready.

As far as the list idea goes, I live in Tampa with a huge reef community, so we all buy stuff off of each other and I just want to avoid getting three or four of the same frag in my tank (done it a few times already).

Thanks!

All mentioned above are great! I would like to recommend my all time favorite.. The true Oregon tort! IMO the most stunning coral ive ever owned/seen. I searched for close to two years for one and once I found it, my reef never looked better. It was absolutely worth the wait, theres not another bue acro that even compares. Good luck! Great tank by the way that is my dream tank

Definitely on my list. I know they're rare and known for being slow growers, but they are absolutely beautiful!

I'd like to put it next to a Purple Monster, but I'm not sure I'll ever find one of those :(

Yea after I found the oregon tort which was almost a year ago, ive been looking for a purple monster and no luck yet. Id also like to get a sapphire mille. Prob is both of those corals are as old and rare if not more rare than the oregon tort😞. If I happen to have some stroke of luck and come across the purple monster I will shoot you a PM. Looking forward to seeing the acros you end up putting in the tank

I'll do the same, if I can find it :) I'm excited to get into SPS heavy. I finally have things figured out (for the most part) and a few of the Reef Raft sticks that I have are growing like crazy.

I'm currently in the process of reaquascaping so that my tank can hold as much SPS as possible. Upgraded my lights, water flow, skimmer and dosing now I just need to finish the rock (and maybe pull out the sand?!) and I think I'll have something really good going :D

The best part of the 300 is all of the room for frags!

Holy crap! that was easy, haha. I probably won't be able to make it at the end of the month. Sadly the end of this month is prime family visiting time :( we're booked solid through early April. I'll have to figure out some way to get some from you though. Maybe even a few of those modded MP-40s ;)

How about the Garf Purple Bonsai Acro

Good one! I got a mini colony of that a while ago and its just barely holding on at the moment :sad2: Any suggestions as to placement/flow?

That looks awesome, I have a similar piece, but no where near the color of that.

Pearlberry is my all time favorite Acro. It's a must have IMO.

YES! How does it do growth wise?

Pearl berry and Red planet for sure! I just found the RP last weekend at an LFS. Going back this weekend to get the PB!

I really love Hawkins too though.

I was just down in tarpon springs last weekend :eek:I have a friend that visit every few months so next time I will give you a heads up

For sure! I've been waiting on the Hawkins for awhile now, well at least since I started a year ago. I think I've got things well enough under control at this point to give it a shot :)

Awesome! Definitely keep me in mind :)

I suggest a couple different tabling millies...for true furryness

Haha, I saw your post on the club forum and I want one of everyone of the ones that you have. If I hadn't had burned a bunch of cash on radions I would have grabbed those colonies from you :(

Agree with some people above..

Not a birdsnest guy, but think the ORA birds of paradise should be in all tanks.
