Estimated Cost of 8-10 foot wall tank

I bought a 280 gallon acryllic tank of craigslist, in good shape, for 650 bucks.

While I agree with others that it will be expensive. Some of the prices are a bit on the ridiculous side. Like you said, look for used deals.

Good luck
(also from indiana:wave:)

Thanks, yup I always utilize craiglist, made thousands over the years with it!

I used to live in FW for a year, went to IPFW and lived in Coliseum Park Apartments!

There is no doubt in my mind that you could pull this off with above average equipment for ~8k "IF" you can do the work yourself.
*Sheetrock
*building stand
*building sump (this saves alot of money)
*electric

I did a 90G in-wall with alot of nice equipment (vortech, aquacontroller apex, ATI fixture ect.) for around 3500.00 saving alot of money building everything I could myself. I also looked for alot of really good deals for a few months to be able to stick to my budget. I did however have livestock and liverock to begin with, But if you can swing a killer deal on the tank i do believe you can get a nice system up in the 8K range.

EDIT: Didnt see the tank would be 1200G, i can still see 8k if the tank wasnt 4ft wide but i actuall have no idea the pricing on a 1200G tank

1200G? that probably is close, 10 foot tank, 3 feet deep.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm not too handy but have friends who are. Did you build the glass too>?

MattShack did a 1000+g plywood build for less than $5k...which I think is incredible. I think I probably have about 2k in my 20L nano-reef...but that includes livestock too

no the tank i bought. But 90G tanks are cheap. 1200G tanks not so much :) But I built the acrylic sump for around 120.00. If I bought it, it would prob. be around 400.00 for the size it is.

Sky is definitely the limit but then again, you have to realistic. Can you swing the monthly maintenance cost and electric bills? Also, you don't want to spent $50k on tank when you house worth $120k, that would be like putting 5k rims on a beat up ford taurus

if you can, great, sky the limit

We are looking in 250-300k range.

How about putting rims on a charger, pretty stupid too lol

If you want professional installation and very good equipment
It's easy 50k for 400 g reef tank .
I am not a pro but I know how much I spend even using diy on installation.

my 600 gallon in wall is about 20k, with pretty good equipment also, volcano skimmer, midwest acrylic 600 gallon, tek t5 lights, reef flow, marco rocks, labor to install etc etc etc etc

for 50k i couldn't imagine what kind of tank i would have... can you show me your cost breakout?

AI LED's for a 10ft wall tank could easily be 5K+ and the tank alone, depending on builder could easily run up to 10K.

i cant imagine a 10'x4'x3.5' from a builder like AGE would cost.... maybe 20K alone for the tank.

not that i'm saying 20K on the setup couldnt be done. just that spending 40K+ could easily be done also.

he ask professionally installed

my tank Installation is mostly DIY and without livestock is over 15K but less than 20
then over 10K just for the fishes i've killed this year:(

With only live rock/sand and equipment I have spent $13,500 on my 210g build.

Add to that all the test kits, towels, fish food, plumbing, salt, fish, and the coral shopping spree I'm about to go on next week after I install my new lights!! And I have spent over 15 and will be around 20k said and done (not that i'll ever be said and done)

Keep in mind guys, that right now I have a 125 gallon, 90 gallon, 2 75 gallon reef, a 55 gallon, a 45 gallon corner, and a 30 gallon saltwater tanks.

I definitely know the upkeep is expensive, and I don't buy cheap fish to stock as it is now. I'd say I spend 50-140 dollars per fish, which is expensive but I like nice, hard to find fish.

20k, 40k, none of that is too much. We'd likely have the tank built in to the basement as the house builds. Set-up my 180 gallon reef, and keep a few other tanks, and then slowly buy equipment and bring the wall tank up to par over a 5 year period or so. This is easily doable for us. While we could set it up in as little as a year, we also plan to start a family, trade out some older vehicles, and save a bit of money also. So we're taking it slow and keeping it realistic lol

Thanks everyone for the help.

Anyone know how many gallons a 10 foot tank (10x36x36) or so would be? Is there an online calculator I could find somewhere?

what have you spent and what is the cost breakout?

i dont have the tank yet im looking to gettin it tank dimension is 120"L x 36D x 27"H got quoted on tank alone at 5k
