Esv b-ionic 2 part

Hi guys I wanted your knowledge. I have had my current 39g cadlights set up since march and haven't had many problems with it. As time went on I have gathered some coral and since then it has been growing. In the beginning I have always tested cal alk and ph. They always remained the same. I use instant ocean reef crystals and I have made 5g water changes that I would assume would replenish cal, ph, and mag. Back then since I only had small corals I guess that was ok but now that the tank is pretty full I have not been able to get my cal up over 380ppm. My ph is either 8.2 or 8.4 depending on the color of the test. Mag is at 1300ppm. I use b-ionic 2 part.
What I wanted to know was if any of you guys were using 2 part and how to go about raising my cal without raising my ph. I had in mind using just part b (cal) and not adding part a (alk). Would that be the correct way of going about raising my cal? If so how much would I, or could I add to my tank and be ok? I hope you guys can help me out.
Also, I was wondering what u guys do or use to supplement your tanks for cal? I was thinking of getting a couple of the brs dossers and hooking them up to my rke and letting it dose at night slowly.
Your help is appreciated

I use Kalkwasser at the moment but will be going back to the calcium reactor soon. I would bump up my Cal levels with the part B slowly at night. The dose pumps are a good idea but we need to figure out how much your system is absorbing so we know how to properly dose for it. Also i am not a big fan of the IO i usually try to convert everyone over to Red Sea Coral Pro. Such a nice salt! Also TANG POLICE!!!!!

Steffen, so it would be ok to use part b alone to bump up cal? If so how much is ok and how much is too much? I don't mind taking the time to bump it up over a week or two. Right now it's at 380ppm, I read that it should be at 420-450ppm. Where do you guys have yours set at?
My concern is that I don't want to shock my system in any way and loose my coral.
I guess what I'm asking is if I dose x amount of part b at night and then test in the morning, what would be a good bump? Would a bump of 10ppm (380-390) in one night be good or too little? Also if anyone out there uses b-ionic 2 part and has needed to boost up only cal, about how many ml would I dose for a 39g tank and a 12g sump? Just an estimate to start me off.
Thanks
Freddy

I use BRS products and do bump up calcium or Alk separately. On my system I bump it up 5ml at a time but this is starting around 420. From Randy Homes-Farley’s An Improved Do-it-Yourself Two-Part Calcium and Alkalinity Supplement System article:

“To initiate dosing, first adjust calcium and alkalinity to roughly their correct ranges. This may require a substantial dose of just the calcium part if calcium is low (e.g., below 380 ppm). I would suggest targeting calcium between 380 and 450 ppm, and alkalinity between 2.5 and 4 meq/L (7-11 dKH; 125-200 ppm calcium carbonate equivalents).”

I would bump it up now, wait about 6-8 hours and test again. If it is say at 390 then add 5ml again and wait over night. Test in morning then adjust again from there. Once you have the parameters where you want them then you would dose to maintain that balance. I would just try to adjust over a few days until you have it where you want it. I’m using Red Sea Coral Pro also but have adjusted it for the calcium reactor.

Thanks everyone it looks as though I'm on the right track! The calculator Steffen linked me to says I need 175 ml of part 2 of the b-ionic. It says I could dose 1/3 to 1/2 of the full dose needed so I dosed 90 ml just now with the lights down. I'm gonna test the tank in the morning and see if I'm closer to my goal. I'll wait till lights out to dose the rest.
Thanks everyone
I hope I can tweak the daily dosage to maintain stability.

Hello there. Im no expert by any means but I think 175ml is a tad over board for a 39g, and its most likely not filled with 39g due to rock and your 12g sump is not filled all the way. I would start low. 390 is not extremely low and by your picks everything looks great. If it was me I would start off with 5 to 10ml wait about 8hrs test and see where you stand. You want to raise ca or alk slowly so to avoid shock in your corals. I use b ionic 2 part on my 90 and currently only dosing 10ml for alk and 20ml for ca and this keeps just where I want to be. Good luck and nice looking tank :)

well this was posted in jan i dont think he will see this or update us on the progress. but yes i would dose a bit more not that much, and use better salt to get the calcium up.
