Yes some people on RC do. I think its a waste of money because you can just use baking soda for alkalinilty and calcium chloride for the calcium.

Hey, I think youll like your B-Ionics system... this is a top grade system that works quite well...
I have used it for a few years, and at my work (LFS) we use this in all the system... it works GREAT!
Ok, the starting dossage is 1mL per 4 gallons, so if you have a 40gallon tank... dose 10mL's... you get it.
Do this ONLY IN THE MORNING, DO NOT DOSE AT NIGHT as this product causes an increase in pH and you do not want to overshoot!
Do this once a day, every day and you should be fine...
Watch your levels for Alk and Ca, if you notice a problem, let us know,
Try getting in touch with Randy Holmes Farley... hes the forum chemist... and a great man to talk to to help you out!

B-ionic is a fine two part supplement. I've used it myself. You can also make your own:

Dosing in the late night or early AM when pH is low is a fine idea, if you use the original B-ionic that raises pH.

I use the ESV and Two little Fishies (TLF) products. Both "claim" to perform as Randy describes by adding "trace" elements in addition to maintaining Ca++ and pH. If you have a large Calcium demand you may need to supplement that element. I would not rate one of the products over the other. Both appear to produce the same results. I buy in volume and am now on my third set of one gallon volumes of TLF only because the shipping cost is slightly less than ESV.
I use a pump to control the recommended daily dose broken down into 4 equal parts added at each 6 hour interval. That way, the tank does not get a single "bolus" in the AM instead receiving sequential doses throughout each 24 hour interval. The data recorded by my Neptune controller indicates that having gone to an automated dosing system as described the pH and CA++ levels are consistently stable. The only time the values significantly change is after a water change.

I use C-balance on an inexpensive Aquadoser 4 times a day. I really like the stability that I now have. Basically, you start dosing at the initial recommendation, and keep testing and tweeking until you have the dosage rock solid. Then, after that, just test 2 times a week to see if you need to adjust.
