Anthony, how are ya? I have a question about torch corals
and polyp behavior. I've had my torch for almost a year now and lately its been exibiting strange polyp/tentacle behavior. Sometimes half of the tentacles will retract while the other half are fully extended. Other times the tentacles will look flat or deflated, again half at a time. Other times the tentacles are over extended. Probably panning for light. My lighting system is pretty weak. I use 2 96watt power compacts, the coral is placed on the top half of the tank and the bulbs are due for replacement. I try to feed it regalarly but it doesnt seem to be as big an eater as a bubble coral for example. Any thoughts on this.

Cheers, my friend ;)

Very well and good to hear from you.

Regarding the polyp behavior... alas, is not indicative of anything specific.

If the lamps are overdue though (over 10 months old) and especially if the lamps or lenses have not been cleaned lately (need wiped down weekly or salt creep/dust destroy the delivery of the weakly available light)... then it may be a factor.

Feeding is another issue altogether. Although they are not ars hearty of a feeder as bubble corals (few are!)... it is still possibly a matter of food nature or particle/prey size. Corals are so very picky about such matters. Do experiment with other foods. Better yet... a large fishless refugium for natural plankton ;P

Wish I could have been more help, my friend.

Kind regards,

Anthony
