When I bought it I was told it was an Aussie orange torch coral but it really doesn't look like a lot of the torches I've seen. It has really short tentacles, when I bought it the tentacles were this long and so were the other frags. Is it a torch coral and if it is will his tentacles get longer?

looks like a torch to me. tentacles do not branch nor do they have multiple tips...so not any kind of frogspawn. and the tips look too round to be any type of hammer coral. so I'd concur with it being a torch.

I can see why E. cristata was suggested. I have both a torch and a grape and I can't say for sure which yours is.

However, it also appears to have a good sized vermetid snail at the base of the skeleton - the curly hard tube thing. The vermetid's food capture web could be irritating the coral and if it's a torch, keeping the tentacles shorter as a result. I suggest dispatching the snail.

The origin of the coral can help decipher whether or not it is a torch or a grape coral. Grape corals are known only to be found in the Indo West region. Torches can be found there as well but usually have longer tentacles. The torches from Aussi usually have shorter tentacles similar to the one in the picture. Once again it is "region specific" as the corals in certain areas needed to adapt differently.

Pink hammer maybe?

It looks like a torch and a very nice one. It should open more when it's settled in and happy. If it doesn't open more after a few days you could place it on the sand bed where it'll get less light.

The first picture is hard to tell but the second picture I think it's a hammer but they r correct it doesn't look like there are multiple tips on the tentacles so it may be a torch but I'm still thinking hammer do to the happier shaped tentacles
