Euro-Reef DIY clone.

No updates yet. I hope I can finish it this weekend. I ran out of Weld-On 16...just got it in yesterday. It is pretty much done...just need to glue everything together.

Just to drop a quick note concernign the Gen X 2400...If oyu remember I had some troubles getting lots of bubbles from it, I tried a few things, other than actually making the venturi hoel bigger. One that worked was adding a very small air pump going into the venturi tube, this increased the skimmate, a little. I tried 3 different pump sizes, but anything bigger jsut was too much and created too large of bubbles. So, today I got my ASM G2 with Sedra (Still have to figure out a way to make a skimemr cup, as it is broke, I have the Oring and snap.screw part, so any ideas?) and man, what a difference! I am totally convinced the "MAGIC" is within the Sedra needlewheel pumps. The Genx worked, but didn;t even come close. Pieky, hoepfully you can mod yours out to do better than mine, but if you can, I would seriously consider returning the Genx and getting the Sedra. I am gonan try the Gen X on a regular smaller venturi skimmer and see what happens! Or I will use it for a return pump. Good luck, I think we are all curious as to seeing your bad boy in action very soon1!

Has anyone tried the cheaper version of sedra pump with a sedra needle wheel impeller? If so, any idea what sedra impeller goes with what pump?

Matt

Worm, the cost of teh Secdra needlewheel alone is pretty steep, if I recall between $30-40, and they sell for about that much less, so it would equal out give or take a few $.

the sedra 9000 with the needle wheel is 110 plus shipping, and the Non branded version is 29.99 plus shipping. then the Needlewheel Impeller is 40 plus shipping.

so total cost of 70 plus shipping vs. 110 plus shipping. i have been told that these are the same pumps, from the same manufacturer in china. that is second hand info, so take it with a grain of salt. i am going to save the 40 bucks personally and give them a shot, but you guys can make your decisions based on your own needs and preferences.

if my budget wasn't so slim, i would probably go with the name brand pump...

Interesting, guess it's worth a shot! I was unaware of what the unbranded ones were. Let us know when you get it.
I think it's official, we have hijacked Pikey's thread!

For what its worth the picture of the nonbranded one looks very much like the old sen900's the only difference is the output section where there now seems to be a "hump" otherwise; it's identical.

I have one and its pretty reliable. A little noisy caues of vibrations inside my sump, but its about 4-5yrs old allready so I can't complain :)

Update.

Update.

Here is my ER clone finished and doing a water test. It is not producing as many bubbles as the one I made with a Sedra pump, but it is working well. I may replace the Gen-X pump with a Sedra. I really like the amount of foam I get with the Sedra better.

Exactly. The ER skimmers just have a riser pipe that lets water out, but when it comes out, it makes quite a bit of splash. The T/elbow allow water to be released closer to the water surface to prevent splash and salt spray.

pikey,

I'm thinking about making a skimmer very similar to yours. Execept I might use a sedra pump as a recirculating pump and just use the return from my tank to feed my skimmer with new water.

Which sedra pump would you reccommend? Can you overdue it...or the bigger the better? I was even thinking about trying one of the generic ones and they are cheap enough I could easily get the largest 1100 gph pump.

Skimmer looks awesome BTW!
