euro-reef overflowing :(

the riser tube is set at the lowest, but i still get overflowing in my skimmer cup. how do i fix this?

Mod it to recirculate- You wont have those problems anymore and your skimmer will perform much better as well...

Have you got a large leather thats not happy or something similar? Perhaps used a different food or treatment?

My Euroreef will blow its top every few months. One trigger I've noticed is when of my leather toadstools does its shedding thing. Had it happen once after pulling a bunch of macro out of my sump as well. Thankfully both are rare activities.

The remedy seemed to be time. I just unplugged it and the next day things calmed down and returned to normal behavior.

Not sure that'll fix your problem, but that's what I ran into in a similar situation.

Check to make sure the air intake tube is not restricted, especially where is is connected into the venturi. Sometimes they will suck in some dust or get resticked with gunk in the venturi.

When the air intake is resticted, the pump is no longer mixing air and is pumping moslty water and it will rise very high in the tube and overflow.

never unplug the skimmer! That is asking for a drop in oxygen levels. Even if it is overflowing, just let it do its thing. Mine does that boiling over junk--sometimes when I fail to wash all the soap off my hands and then go poking around in the sump... If you just let it go, it will calm down. But be sure then to clean out the collection cup and tube. A lot of nastiness will accumulate there.
