Just ordered a new RC250 from Euro-Reef - factory direct - it will have the new Eheim NW pump - will take them 3 weeks to build and another week to deliver, so end of November I will have new RC250 pics to share!

Also order a new RS135, will post those too.

Apparently, Euro-Reef is developing a huge line of new products, some of which will be unveiled at the next MACNA - HOB's, Ca Reactors, advanced internal skimmer sensors, etc. I have no more info on these products...

I'm sure this is premature, but will the rs135 be updated with the new euro-loc neck and an ehiem? I've been waiting for this upgrade before I join the club. I am going to try to wait for the eheim, as I have heard nothing but praise about them, and I need a quiet system.
I am in dramatic need of an upgrade for my 90 reef. It's currently using what I believe is an early (10 year old) sea-clone, on a fairly heavily coral stocked tank. I guess the tank is growing and doing fine, but I'd like to think that the increased skimming power will help.

Interesting that the RC250 will be available with an Eheim. AFAIK, the Eheim is ~ the same performance as the SP4 which comes on the RC/CS/RS180, but is quieter. The SP5 that would normally come on an RC/CS/RS250 is more powerful than the SP4 or Eheim with a greater LPH. It seems the RC250 would be losing performance by going to the Eheim.

I have a 3 year old CS8-3 (gate valve mod)with a Sedra 5000. It just doesn't put out. I have opened up the venturi to 3/16", and put in a new impeller. I was about to do the recirc mod and feed it from my return pump. I'm wondering if there is a better option with the new pumps available. I have a 1 year old CS8-1 with the same pump that way outperforms it. I sent an e-mail to Euro-reef asking them as well but have not had a response. Thanks for any advice.

The sp5 would work much better on that skimmer. IMO, the sedra 5000 just isn't powerful enough for the 8-3 (250) body. You will see much better results with a more powerful pump.

Rich are you going to put the new eheim pumps on the skimmer?

No it has the older SP4 pumps which from what I understand are on par with the Eheim pumps. Since I have a tank room the hum of the pumps isn't a concern. I'm currently using a dual Beckett powered by an Iwaki MD70RLT. That's a noisy combination so this will be "quiet".

Nice skimmer rich. If it doesn't end up working out for you. You can always send it to me. Of course you will need to pay shipping, because that is one big box. Anyway I'll pm you my address just in case. This must be the introduction of the opposite sketch or something....

LOL. Sure as long as you pay me more than I paid for it. :c)

My only fear is the tendency for these skimmers to overflow. My existing skimmer tends to go flat when things happen (feedings, spawning, epoxy, etc). Only thing that makes it go bonkers is when I feed fresh squid.

Having the skimmer dump water onto the floor is not an option (way to big to fit in my sump). So I'm thinking of adding the drain line to waste collector with a float switch to kill the re-circ pumps if needed. (I'll be plumbing it directly to drain line -- no feed pump for now).

ER is just releasing in the last week or so, new impellers for the SP line of pumps which significantly improves performance. I would contact them and get an upgrade.

Agree. An SP5 would make a world of difference.

CS 400

CS 400

I just bought a used CS 400 from a buddy of mine that is modded with a gate valve. I am wondering what the best pumps are to run on the skimmer? I am also wondering what airline to run and are the valves included in the airline? I also would like to know as much as possible as to any other mods that can be made to it?

I have a 150 gallon reef tank with a 180 gallon sump and a 55 gallon fuge. I have a1 wrasse, 1 tang, 2 gobys, 1 mandarin dragonet, a mated pair of percs and a cherub angel.

Tombsy, check the impeller shaft. My ES5-3 wasn't running up to par.I pulled the pump apart and the shaft has groves in it.I just ordered a new SP2 pump for it yesterday.I can't get a email reply from ER either.I wanted to know what other options on pumps I have besides the SP2 but no reply after a week.I can't complain,a new pump in 3 years with this skimmer.

I'm dry fitting some of the plumbing to my RC-500. The feed tube seems to be 1 inch PVC but it a bit tight. It would be effort to slide on a 1 inch PVC fitting. Highly doubt I could get a dry fit back off again. Is this typical?

Rich, no. ER uses US standard fittings. The Germans use metric and problems are more likely to arise there. Did you try a few different fittings?

My RC180 just has a piece of 1" grey pipe shoved through the black uniseal. If yours is like this, try replacing the funny pipe with 1" riser pipe. You will need to cut the threaded ends off of this pipe.

Thanks. I tried a 1 inch end-cap and tee and they fit much better. The elbow is really snug. Must be something odd with the elbow I tried.

Hey guys,
I think it's time to upgrade my skimmer from a turbo-flotor to a turbo reef. What would you guys recommend between the RS80, CS80, and RS100? I want something that I can later use on a larger tank. Right now I have a 40 but may upgrade later down the road.
Thanks guys,
FB
