trade deficit does not equal debt, nor is it a bad thing. I could go on but this is not the place.

I really don't think it matters where the skimmer is produced. If you are making this argument here wouldnt you have to make it for every imported skimmer? I'm sure ER will do the same thing that US distributors of deltec/h&s/ etc do when they get a defective part from abroad......THROW IT OUT.

I thought because of the big hole on top of the water level control that would act as a siphon break?

Am I supposed to saw the pvc to the proper length?

Ahh please dont go sawing about at your brand new skimmer just because I suggested to keep the pipe out of the water. PLEASE! haha. I just read about the H&S skimmers and most recirc skimmers needing to have their output pipe stay un-submerged or surging would occur. I would be interested to see how this works on the RS80 though. Also, how do you raise and lower the water level? Do you raise the entire pipe setup?

There is a 6 inch piece of pvc that stands vertically on the output that you twist between open to closed to change the water level. The pvc is open on the top.

I had the saw out and ready to go. :lol:

Yeah, it doesn't really screw down, but that's the idea. The pvc piece is uneven on the bottom so that closed side blocks the output, the open side lets it go, and you can restrict the flow 180 degrees in between there. It just sticks in the top with an o-ring to keep it water tight.
 
bad pic of my RC80's Euroloc. this was day one when i was adjusting it so the water level is too low...disregard that in the pic. this thing turns 1/3turn MAX. it is like a twistloc disguised as a union. so instead of Turning the union multiple time it only turns 1/3turn like the twist locks...BUT only the outside top union part turns and not the whole riser and cup.

i have a 95 gallon tank with a 55 gallon sump. it is lightly stocked with a 5'' hippo tang, 2 1'' tomato clowns, and 1 blue green chromis.

i am considering buying an rs-180 for my tank. i would also like to get the gate valve mod to make it easier to dial in.

has anyone heard if they have gotten the new impellers on these skimmers yet? or are we still waiting?
 
I recently bought a RS 135 and now I find myself in a predicament. Unfortunately my stand height will not allow me to raise the skimmer at all, meaning I'm stuck w/ only 6-8 inches of water in my 35 gal sump. I'm trying to brainstorm:
1. Is there a way to plumb the outlet of the skimmer to another "sump" and then put the return in that sump?
2. Can anyone think of any way to maximize my sump volume w/ this particular dilemma?
I've got just enough clearance under the stand to be able to clean the canister when necessary.
Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

So I decided to upgrade our 90 to a 150. We've had a CS6-1 on it from the start.
Which of the new lower cost units will give me the same performance and quality as the 6-1 did?
 
For a 150, the RS180 would be good or a RS250 if you can fit a 30" tall skimmer and want some extra capacity.
 
Hey guys, I just ordered a new sp4 with new style pin wheel, can you tell me what size fittings I need to get for inlet/outlet? Is it 1" FPT?
 
Thanks for the info cerreta. I see that I have the old bayonet style now. Personally I'm kinda of happier. It uses the same method as my old turboflotor and I think it's such a breeze to get on and off. I guess it does require a little more clearance though.

Quick question. For the gate valve mod. I'm supposed to go with 1.5" plumbing correct? I remove the thinner riser tube that moves and connect the new 1.5" pvc tees and valves. There are no reducers or anything else involved correct? I will look for parts this weekend and will post it if I get it up and running. It's been a few days now and I'm still waiting for it to break in more.

Do you guys normally run them with the valve fully open or do you have to cut the air back somewhat to get less of an alkaseltzer like affect in the neck?

wow, I just got my RS 80. I am impressed. You guys werent kidding about the build quality, its exceptional. the acylic is thicker than any skimmer I've dealt with (which is many), but its still light.

The euro lock is by far the best method for cup removal I've dealth with. Will take some pictures later.
 
FB, I think 1.5" is too big for the RS100. It should be the 1 1/4" kit that you want. ER sells the kit for $35. Not sure that it can be done for much less. The good gate valves cost about $15-$20.

Do you plan to turn this into a recirc skimmer, or just add the gate valve kit for better control?
 
yeah, I liked the EuroLoc too. Nothing has worked better than that. I don't like the bayonet. It is too tight to turn,. so I don't. I just push the collection cup down and levae it there. The oring holds it tight, but I await teh day of an accident, I do have five felines that like to jump on the skimmer. :)
