Rooroo, I have the RS5-2 which is an older, slighting smaller version but I seriously doubt you can get that to fit without major modifications and even then, it'll be tight.

Isn't the CS5-2 basically the same size as the RS80? I know someone fit the RS80 into a 7" x 9" area... I should contact them and find out how they did it.

I have a few questions for the ER guru's here...

I have an older model RS5-2 with the 5' reactor chamber. Now, first question. Is it hard to modify this into a recirculating type skimmer and is it worth the extra work?

Second question, I have an extra Sedra NW like the one that comes with the skimmer originally. Would it be beneficial to also use that pump as a recirculating pump if I were to do that? Would the reaction chamber be able to handle that much air is the real question I suppose.

Thanks in advance!
i think you will be pushing it. with that size chamber. i have the 6-3 model and i moded it for a while didnt really see much improvement to be honest. so i brought it back to factory specs and now its doing great. i did the mesh mod on mine and that really improved skimming.

with me i have found keep it stock and clean the collection cup as often as you can.

i did do the gatevalve mod on mine as well. it sits in 8" of water seems to be optimum

Hrmm....Well, thats easier than tinkering with it I suppose.

But do you think a recirculating mod would be worth the time?

EUROREEF Please check your p/m I bought a new RS 80 last weekend and it was missing a part. I have left two emails for Chip. I have left two voicemails for Chip and I have spoke to a lady at Euro-Reef who took my name and number but still no response.

UPDATE: I just got a hold of Chip on the phone and he says if I fax my warranty card to him he will send out a new skimmer body to replace the one I just bought last weekend. Mine was missing the air intake valve holder. Thanks Chip

Got myself a Euro Reef RS 250 and i'm loving it. What a beast. My tank is a new Tenecor acrylic 150 gallon with a 75 gallon sump and it's only cycling but my skimmer is still finding stuff to pull out. I'm very pleased with the Euro Reef product. I can't wait until I get a few tangs in there for some bioload so this baby really working.

Just wanted to say that a CS6-1 will fit in an 8.5" x 11" space. Actually, it might even fit in a 7" x 11" space... I have to raise the skimmer up 3" to get it in that 6-8" water level range, which leaves just enough space under the riser pipe to slide the pump under. A few 3/4" to 1" elbows and I'll be in business. Got it running in a vinegar bath and I'm impressed! Can't wait to get it in the tank and see what kind of gunk it pulls out.

I am thinking about extruded acrylic rs80 . Does anyone know if the material is sturdy enough. I want to get a new one for a 65 gallon

I have one. Seems perfectly solid to me. I think it is just as structurally sound as is, but you can't drill it as easy for mods. Skims like crazy.

So, does anyone have a new skimmer with the Eheim 1262 needlewheel on it? How do you like it? Is there anything custom about the pump other than the needlewheel? I have a couple 1262s that arent in use, and considering using their needlewheel as long as the pumps arent all custom and stuff like deltec and H&S 1260's (enlarged outlet).

RS250

RS250

Is the RS250 the largest in-sump skimmer ER makes? Is it big enough for a 180g mixed reef?

That would be a great choice for you.

This is mine I just got, but modded it to be external.

I just got one a week or two ago to mod my 8-3 to a recirc.
I'd say the pump is anything but modded. I bought the kit to recirc and had all the plumbing included, what I did not realize is all the fittings are glued and they used thickwall PVC on both the intake and exhaust side of the pump effectively choking it down, with no way to change without MAJOR hassels.
Very dissapointed to say the least.

Very nice work

I just purchased a RS250 for my 180g tank and had a quick question on the recommended water level.

The manual is generic for all models and says that the optimal water level is 6"-8". This seems kind of weird because my RS80 is 22" tall and my RS250 is 30" tall, so I figured the bigger skimmer would proportionally have a higher water level. Does anyone w/ the RS250 have any real world recommendations for the water level? Should I use 6" on my RS80 and 8" on my RS250? or just shoot for 7" on both?
