I cant seem to find any threads regarding the euroreef recirc mod. In particular, i wanted some info. on how people are attaching the union valves to the body of the skimmer. Does anyone have a link to a thread or some ideas?
Thanks

Thanks. The guy actually used uniseals, and since i want this outside the tank, i was hoping to get information on union valves. I appreciate the link though. Anyone else?

I hate to keep bumping this up, but that was a link to the Euroreef site, which does not provide help with regard to the recirc mod. Thanks anyways.

Mr. Ugly is correct - this is how many if not all manufactors of rc skimmers work is through the uni-seal.

ER doesn't, they weld. H&R doesn't, Deltec doesn't, Royal Exclusive doesn't, to name a few Who is all?

Thanks Gresham. I didnt want to keep bumping the thread, but that was what i was thinking. If that were the case, i dont think anyone would own a RC skimmer, as that opens it up for a ton of potential disasters.

So my question really was, what is the most effective method welding that folks have tried?

PM spazz. He has done this many times. He modifies the union so it sits nicely on the tube. He's a busy guy, so a response might not be immediate.

Here's a picture he took of his skimmer with unions (I hope he does not mind).

If you've all ready own a semi decent air compressor, and an air filter (water/particluate remover), Harbor Freight (in Newark) has a real cheap plastic welder. It's not the best, and does have a pretty steep learning curve, if you've never welded before. I've done some, it's quite fun actually, but definitly required a lot of trial and error.

An easier way, is to do like Bill and simply cut a hole just slightly larger then the OD of your pipe, and use fittings to sandwich it in. You can use either PVC glue, or acrylic (weld-on 16) glue, both work equally as from in my experience. You seem to get less crazing/cracking if you use PVC glue for that joint. At our facility, we've got a bunch of penetrations like that, and they've held for many years now, no leaks :D
